Join them together after removing cables from the battery - they only need to touch and do not need to be held for 20 minutes. The purpose is to remove any stray voltages in the system that may be keeping any memory alive.

Sorry to re-awaken such an old thread but I'm thinking of doing this on my 2010. Like Garry said, it's the same as doing a full shut down on a PC to clear the memory.

Troubleshooting only. No need if everything is working properly. |

I agree - not needed unless you have a niggling problem that will not go away. It is simple and no cost so has always got to be the first action to attempt to fix an issue.

Thanks guys..... for the longest time I've had the Extended mode issue where the car thinks there's an obstruction under the chassis when I go into access mode and I have never tried this. Do you think this may help? I'm thinking, "wouldn't hurt to try." |

Mine does that occasionally, according to the garage it's a slightly dodgy height sensor issue.

The IIDTool makes it pretty easy to recalibrate. I did a quick recalibration a few weeks ago with my IIDTOOL but I'm not sure if I did it to the letter so as to get everything back to stock. I just looked at what I had and made the front ones even and then the back ones even although slightly higher. I tried to find a "reset to factory specs" setting but there isn't one. I'll try again today.
