With all the clean air push and the anti-diesel sentiment, do you guys feel there's any risk to diesel engine cars being banned from say London or congested areas, or perhaps for the govt to take serious measures to discourage people from owning diesel cars.

I ask because I'm considering buying a new diesel RRS and I'm concerned!

In short..........no.

However, older (pre Euro 4 or 5) diesels will almost certainly get banned from pollution hot spots like many city centres.

Cars complying with Euro 6 will be fine. Even after Brexit............... MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I can't see it but you never really know. Politically a new government with a large majority will want to enact any unpopular legislation early on so, if anything, I would expect some announcements that are designed to let market forces do the damage?

The most likely cause of a decline in diesel usage would be people believing all the hype, then it'll become a self-fulfilling prophecy. In my view, it will blow over if left alone - we'll probably see the last diesel car on the same day we all die of ebola, zica virus, cryptosporidium difficile, bird flu, sars.........

Mine was built on 19 March 2015, is a 306HP Dynamic and doesn't have Adblue so they were still being built and registered up to the end of March 2015. The really weird thing is my 1996 300 TDi Defender has lower emissions than my RRS yet is banned from entering the London Low emissions Zone............ purely because of its age. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Looks like Adblue was mandatory from September 2015, but there's a massive grey area in between Jan-Sep...

The official line:

From 1st January 2015, all newly introduced vehicles must meet Euro 6 standards. This includes any new models on the market. Vehicles already on sale must comply with Euro 6 by 1st September 2015, but;
Individual vehicles already on sale that were built by, and dispatched from, the manufacturer before 1st June 2015 can continue to be sold until 1st September 2016. This issue was on my radar but I didn't think twice about ordering an SDV8 (Euro 6) this week. Is Andy Burnham - Manchester's new Mayor - really going to slap me with a charge for driving into his city each day. Er, no! Wouldn't exactly be a crowd pleaser would it, and I'm assuming he wants to keep the public on-side. And how would he enforce it - he doesn't have cameras already installed like they do in London for congestion charging.

London may be a 'special' case IMO. They have bigger congestion and polution issues, and there are more public transport options, so perhaps they could get away with it?

Medium to long term, I can see change. But first, I believe we will have a central government sponsored scrappage scheme to get the dirty diesels off the streets. 5 years to implement and run such a scheme I'd guess.

Scrappage scheme? Do you think the Govt will give me £25k to step out of my 10 year old TDV8 and in to a "clean" later model? Nope, neither do I. Any scrappage scheme will be so limited as to be ineffective, in my opinion. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
