BRAKE PAD CHANGE

Hi
need to change brake pads on my 14MY 4.4 Sport fitted with Brembro's. I have been advised that the rear calliper needs to opened electronically.
his this correct?
and if so, how is this done?

no warning light is on as yet, so I also assume t]I do not need too change the brake sensor.

Keith

You will only have Brembo brakes on front & these don't need winding in electronically if it the rears you are changing then yes they need winding back electronically.

From another forum

You have to activate an e-brake service mode... Procedure is as follows:
- Turn the ignition ON (not the engine) by pushing the start/stop button without stepping on the brake pedal
- Push the e-brake button down for 2 seconds and hold it (release the e-brake)
- Push the accelerator pedal down for 2 seconds and hold it
- Push the start/stop button twice (turn the ignition off and on)
Now the e-brake service mode is active.. you will hear a noise from the rear e-motors, when its releasing the e-brake to the service mode. Still hold the e-brake button and the accelerator pedal.
After the e-motors stops there will be info on the dash that the e-brake service mode is activated.

To deactivate the service mode is the same procedure, the only change is that you have to pull the e-brake button.

It then suggests you can change the pads as normal after this, pushing the pistons in using a standard tool.

I have checked the process on my MY2016 RRS and it works (but have not changed the pads!) 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

This is what I did when I changed the pads on mine.

BTW, EBC Redstuff pads have virtually eliminated brake dust on the wheels. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

mines
a couple fo points to clarify..
- Turn the ignition ON (not the engine) by pushing the start/stop button without stepping on the brake pedal

- Push the e-brake button down for 2 seconds and hold it (release the e-brake)
release after two seconds, or keep holding?

- Push the accelerator pedal down for 2 seconds and hold it
release after two seconds, or keep holding?

- Push the start/stop button twice (turn the ignition off and on)
fast cycle or should allow the electronics to boot up?

many thanks.

Keith

This is what I posted, hope it answers your questions:

Ignition on, engine off:

Hold EPB switch in "off" position for two seconds, then, keeping it pressed, floor the accelerator for two seconds.

Holding both in the same position, toggle ignition off then on rapidly - EPB goes to "service" or "maintenance" mode.

Turn ignition off and replace pads.

To reset - do the same thing but holding the EPB switch in the "on" position. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Hi All
One last question, looking in car parts for less web site, there appears to be two types of rear pad, one with bolts and one without, how do I determine which are correct for my sport?

quick question, I assume that there are wear indicators that need replacement when pads are changed. Anyone know where to purchase these? M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
