Traffic information.

Unless I'm mistaken, traffic information comes in two forms: When satellite navigation is NOT being used, I get a list of local traffic problems in the side screen, which, if selected, take you to a map showing more details. When satellite navigation IS being used, I get different colours down the sides of roads indicating status, with red borders showing slow-moving traffic.

The problem I'm having is that I can't find a way to make use of either system! The list of local traffic problems is random, bearing no relation to the route I am taking, so I would have to select every item on the list just to see if any might affect my planned journey. The changing road-border colours doesn't give any advance notice, so you are already on the affected road before you find that there is a red warning. You could theoretically keep zooming out of the map to see what might be ahead, but the scale would be so small you couldn't see the border colours, and, by the time you got there, it may no longer apply anyway. So far I have been stuck in traffic on several occasions, but never had any advance warnings or been re-routed.

Is there any practical way to get traffic alerts which will affect you further ahead? How do others use the system to best benefit?

On my MY15 if I am following a planned route then there is a green / orange / red icon in the top bar (slightly left of centre?) which shows good / slow / bad on your route ahead. If you tap on the icon it will bring up a list of incidents ahead.

I often get black arrows on my map but have yet to work out what they mean... Embarassed

Thanks for that information, I haven't noticed this bar, but that doesn't mean it isn't there! I will have a look next time - that certainly sounds like the missing piece of the jigsaw.

On the subject of things we don't understand (I'm the same with the arrows) what are the numbers in small circles on roads? (Randomly located, and not at junctions and not actual road numbers).

Bringing an old thread back to life!

I have a MY21.5 HSE RRS, having had several X5s before it. On the X5 nav system, you could bring up a list traffic issues on the planned route. Details included where they were, nature of the incidents (eg road works), and impacts on traffic flow (eg “Slow moving traffic for 3km. Average speed 50km/hr”). That information would update during the trip.

Does anybody know if something similar exists on the RRS Duo Touch nav system? I sure as heck cannot find it, if it exists.

BTW: There is a lot I love about the RRS over the X5, but the nav system does not appear in that list. It often comes up with some pretty odd choices, eg directing you down slow, small country roads, instead of main roads, which might be a little longer, but easier and quicker driving. The system takes a long time to “get the hint”… if you ignore a directed turn, for many km after it will direct you to do a u-turn or go around the block, instead of recognising that you have selected an alternate route. The whole Duo Touch system is also very laggy to touch input! Rant over! MY21.5 HSE 221KW D16
