Oooh...

Go you can use an IID tool to program a key? How do you do that then?

My spare opens the car but it won't allow the car to start. So maybe I can re-program? Or won't I be able to?

you can use your own IID to program a key to your car.

but you can't do this for other people as it's locked to your VIN on the ~£400 version

That's interesting, can a Hawkeye do it? I had a rovacom with my D2 and I could programme a key with that.
