United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey

thanks, that's about what i was expecting (hoping for) from my RRS.

Still, i did a very gentle 75 mile trip at the weekend and got a reported 47.4 mpg on the return journey, which I expect will be more like 40mpg real world. But i was driving VERY steadily on motorways and dual carriageways, just to see what i could get out of it. The outbound trip, driving at or around the speed limits, got me an indicated 34 mpg (28mpg real world). huge difference! Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Had one of these for a week.

I was massively critical hearing about LR fitting the 2.0 4cyl 240bhp to a vehicle.

I eat my hat. I've driven it and lived with it and all I can say it is a fantastic engine. I would still have a 3.0 V6 if I wanted a diesel, however the engine suited the vehicle very well.

I also had a Disco 5 with the same engine for a week, loaded with 7 people and it managed perfectly.

Well done LR. 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE

I test drive one of these a couple of weeks ago - RRS HSE. Thought it was pretty nice and had plenty of poke. Acceleration was good and the gearbox/engine combo was pretty responsive. My only criticism is, that it's pretty vocal at high revs, in a way that didn't sound all that pleasant, but perhaps spec'ing a solar attenuating windscreen would help shield the noise?

Driving like that, I get more out of an SDV8!

I just found most RRS sports quite quiet inside the cabin, and this one wasn't as quiet. In the configurator it mentions about the solar glass giving more sound insulation, so I'm just wondering.....?

I've test driven loads of RRSports, but come to think of it they might have been ABs, perhaps there's more sound insulation in them too?

I just can't fathom how solar attenuating glass deadens sound Confused , although I have it in my car (for the Heads Up Display, not any other reason). Mine is also an AB, and, yes, it is much quieter than a standard RRS in my opinion, not least because you are surrounded by soft padded materials - but maybe it's all down to the windscreen! Laughing .

You got me intrigued, so I just checked the configurator, and this is what the version I looked at states about the windscreen

"Fitted to the front windscreen. This is a Fine Metallic Coating made up of several layers of Titanium and Silver to create an infrared reflective coating, keeping the car cool in hot conditions".

They say that it's laminated construction helps buffer sound, but wasn't sure if they were referring to just wind noise or whether it would help with all sounds just in front of the windscreen, e.g. the engine? I've always wondered what they exactly meant by this, but never asked anyone.....

Anyhow, first time I've driven an HSE and quite impressed with the engine, apart from the one issue. I was getting around 35mpg, but being fair I only had it for 1 1/2 hours......

I've definelty seen this before, because I've been wondering about this issue for quite a while. The last time I looked it up it was on the Velar configurator......

Just been through the Landrover website, and whether it's Solar Attenuating or Infrared Reflective it does just mention about keeping the car cooler in hot conditions. I think the Velar configurator is the only one that mentions about sound now.

This is exactly what the solar windscreen is for. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

This is what it says for the Velar, (similar to a few other JLR models over the past couple of years)

"This windscreen filters sunlight to reduce heat and prevent UV rays from entering the cabin. Its laminated construction also buffers sound to keep Range Rover Velar quieter."

I think I'll just add it to the 'ever-expanding' list of questions I have for LR......

Aren't all windscreens laminated? Confused Why don't they also mention that it keeps the rain out? Laughing

I did wonder about this but if you look on the glass on the solar treated screen you see the sound icon ?
