Does it look 'long and low' because it is? Velar strikes me as more of an estate car than a RR - not a bad thing, and I do think it looks smart, but will it feel as commanding from the driver's seat?

I meant to say black makes it look shorter and longer than it actually is. A different coloured roof on a ligjter car gives the car a more proportioned look IMHO.

It's lower than a RRS but higher than a Macan and Evoque.

With the growing doom around diesel, I could possibly be tempted with switching a planned 4.4 RRS order to a P380 Velar for some hooning around in .... if only the latter had a bigger fuel tank. The range on a P380 would be 300 miles (or less) by my reckoning, which for a man who does 17,500 miles pa and hates petrol stations is a problem!

I am tempted to go petrol too but for now the Diesel still has a higher residual value...this could change very quickly though if these stealth taxes get in!

If you mean the city surcharges by stealth taxes, they won't apply to new diesels.

I know they won't but how long before they decide to do this for all Diesels I wonder

All the Euro 6 changes forced on diesels have at least lowered emissions to below the maxima, so it would be hard to justify still surcharging them. What's more worrying to me is the public's perception of diesels due to the adverse publicity, and the consequent effect on residual values.

I agree there is a lot of worry through out the internet about Diesels it will eventually do harm i,m sure.
I have always had RRs in Diesel but when i do change next time it will definitely be a petrol either 5.0SC or P380.

but wont concentrating on that, and going back to petrol cars, mean that the CO2 level go back up again?

Unless you have an entirely clean source of electricity to charge the car, CO2 emissions would be worse. The average petrol engine is more efficient than the average electricity generation in the UK, so more CO2 would be produced per mile. The only advantage of all-electric cars, until such time as we have genuinely clean electricity (and I don't mean wood-chip!), is that it shifts pollution out of cities. (This is ignoring the subject of the disposal/recycling implications of all those batteries........).

As regards directly comparing petrol with diesel cars, the anti-diesel lobby are already claiming that advances in petrol technology have wiped out the historic advantage of diesels in efficiency and thus CO2 output. Whether that is true of not I don't know (it does seem to fly against the Laws of Thermodynamics), but I know whose opinion on the subject I wouldn't trust........

I was given an insight into Velar interior and HMI, although very briefly as it was only a 'side thing'. During the few minutes that I spent in the car playing with ICE etc, I couldn't help but notice how cheap and plasticy the top part of the dash was! Same as a Disco Sport really. It was an R-Dynamic but I don't know exactly which variant. Are they all like that or is it possible to get some decent trim that reflects the price of the car?

On the other hand, the screens look good and work very well. Among other things, LR have reduced the response times, finally. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
