Internal plastic and metal look trim scratch removal

While cleaning the dash I noticed some minor scratching on the silver metal look trim around the gear nob, and also the plano black trim.

Should I be polishing these scratches out as I would a normal painted surface, or what would you folks use?

Thanks

If it's not metal and just painted plastics then you can use the same polish you would on paint. For such an intricate area I would use a dremmel with buffing wheels, and if you have a selection of polishes to use, go with least aggressive first then work you way to most aggressive or until you achieve the correction your after.

Thanks folks,

That got me thinking about whether it was actual metal, or painted plastic. I tried a Defelsko DFT paint thickness gauge on it as it would let me know if it's metal or not, and it is metal. But whatever coating is on is only a couple of microns thick, so I'm a bit wary of going right through it. Maybe it's best to leave it in it's natural scratched look after all...

Use a silicon spray or if you have some wd40 handy spray a bit of that on.

I have both of those, but I can't think how they'd hide scratches as I'd imagine they'd maybe emphasise them? I can give them a try though.
It's just little scratches which if on bodywork paint would just disappear with a compounding, but initially I wasn't sure on the metal due to the satin type finish. I was thinking if I used a metal polish then it may polish it to a shine, but I also was wondering if it was plastic or metal coated with a lacquer of some sort so it would polish out - this is now what I think it is after having checked it with the paint thickness gauge, but it is very thin, maybe too thin to compound. But, as the scratches are very light then I maybe should look for a filling polish which might fill the scratches rather than remove a layer of lacquer with the possibility of going through and shining the satin look.

My wife says she can't even see any scratches, but I'm sure her optician uses jam jar bottoms in her glasses.... 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine
