HUD

I've seen a few disparaging comments about the HUD on here and wondered what the problem is? It's an option I really fancy having driven a BMW with HUD for a few days as I thought it was a great driving aid, especially with speed limit warning. Appreciate any views.

I think it's brilliant. The only problem, and it's not a fault of the system per se, is that it doesn't work with most driving sun glasses (due to the polarisation).

Think that's common to all systems, just wondered why some folk have said it's not great on the RRS? Appreciate your comment as it's something I would go for along with blind spot, which I've got very used to on my current car.

I also think it's a great feature although the speed display on the my17 is much bigger and better than the previous cars I would still spec hud every time.

one of the best features, as sat nav turns are shown on the HUD I can also keep the voice prompt off.

If you've used a BMW/MINI system, you'll think it's crap.

It's 2 colours and shows hardly any information. BMW/MINI gives you full track listings, phone data etc. LR one gives you speed, traffic signs and basic nav data.

It isn't worth the cost IMHO.

I've got the HUD and quite like it, I only want key info on the screen to be honest and it does exactly that (speed, speed limit, cruise control speed and Sat Nav directions), got a 12" screen behind the steering wheel to show everything else.

Comparing it to the Mini system is a bit unfair, in the Mini's I've seen it requires an extra little screen on the dash to project the info on to which seems to take away the whole point of the HUD.

Yeah, but what information do you need on the HUD? The more you get given, the less each is regarded IMHO. Having your current speed, the current speed limit, imminent directions, forward alerts, and gear is as much as anyone needs. Anything more is less. Keeping the stuff to what's important about driving is a good thing. But all IMHO of course.

MINI system is indeed on separate screen due to angle of windscreen.

BMW system is the same as the MINI but on the windscreen.

Hi,

I have HUD in my RRS AB and have just spec'd it for SWMBO's D5 HSE.

I think it's great. Any more info than it currently gives would be distracting - radio info or music info is in the dash - that's fine by me and we do 2000 miles a month between the 2 cars.

I have it on my 2017 model and I'm sold. As other said, I needed to buy a pair of non-polorised sunnies to read it clearly.

The screen was faint even when set to full brightness with my "old" polarised sunnies, I could still read it though...

It displays the gear selection (when self selecting gears) , cruise control, speed and directions from the satnav. 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

Have it and don't use it. The noise it makes, a very low sound of the computer fan drives me nuts. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Dealer said it was a fan, can be fixed by removal of the dash , which could mean further issues ! He said it was a common issue but most people don't hear it due to poor hearing or the sound system volume. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I considered HUD for my 17MY but discounted it purely on cost grounds.

With the new instrument panel, Speed and Gear selection is displayed big and bold right in front of you and SatNav turn indications come up on the screen as well. So, didn't fancy spending the extra for speed limit signs which show on the central screen.
