Nice cost for a spare key....

Well, the car only came with one key, so a quick phone call to the Local dealer.

£150 for the key, plus £70 for the software update.

At one point he was saying, "who, might need a new module as they can only code so many keys to it"

7-10 days for the key to be shipped.

Ah well, didn't really want to eat this week Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

its not a software update you have to code the key to the car make sure they recode your key as well otherwise you will only have 1 key again that does sound a lot for a key Whistle

I had the same problem but I found a local automotive locksmith who cut a new blank blade and then "cloned" the electronics of the new key to my old one. It looks like it is one of those ebay ones but all 3 buttons work fine, unlock, lock and tailgate unlock.
It's all been working well for past 6 months. The only thing that might not work is the Lazy Entry for each key but as long as it does it for the Mrs, I don't mind. I even had the BCM changed last month and no issues with the "spare" key.
Total cost was £180 and they came to the house and did it in 30 minutes.
I know it's not the cheapest option but i didn't want to wait 3 weeks for dealer, make 2 visits, the first to prove my identity and the second to be shafted. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

It's the ability for individual keys to be coded to individuals use, sets seat and door mirrors to your saved preferences Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

You might have it, just look in the "settings" on the dashboard and scroll through the options. you might see "Lazy entry" and then you can toggle it on or off. Then it's just a question of setting up each key with the seat and mirror position. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

IIDTool

Best bet, save your money and buy an IIDTool, then program your own key
