Brake problems across the range?

I had to nip into my dealership on Saturday morning to get the adblue topped up.

Whilst I was in there I met 4 other customers who were all in for brake squeal problems. 2 had 2016 RRS, 1 had a 2016 Discovery Sport and the other had a 3 week old Evouqe. The vehicles had a mix of Brembo and standard brakes.

Now there is a thread on here talking about brake squeal from the Brembo calliper, which my L494 suffered from so badly my 16 plate is shortly being replaced free of charge. After 7 visits to the dealership I was finally told there there was no fix for the problem and that they would change the vehicle as a good will gesture.

So between the 5 of us we had 5 2016 or newer vehicles, worth around the £300,000 mark, all suffering from brake squeal / scream. The Service Reception Manager told each of them that Land Rover is aware of the problem and working on a fix which they expect to role out in 8 to 18 months...... :shock

Something very, very wrong somewhere in the JLR Quality Control system eh?

is it brake squeal or EPB Squeal? Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

It's brake squeal.

In my case I get squeal / squeak whilst driving up to around 20 mph, and then high pitch squeal whenever I touch the brakes.

Form speaking to the other owners they were all experiencing the same symptoms.

Open your windows - I a sure most of you have squeaky brakes!!! I have heard so many LRs on the road with this issue.

My RRS had it, 2 x friends RRS have it - My wife's evoque has developed it and a loan MY 17 RRS I had with 900 miles on the clock had it too!

JLR seem to have a major problem going and no idea how to rectify it. My now sold MY15 had the brake pads changed twice, calipers changed, discs changed all round twice and the problem kept coming back after two - three weeks! In the end I just left it - living with it on the Evoque too now as I know there is no real cure!

RRSman, how is this possible? I have never had brake squeal on any car I have ever owned? When I owned older cars I carried out all the servicing and repairs myself. I always maintained the braking systems and never had any problems? Why does my wife's 2014 Evoke not squeal? Why did my previous L494 not squeal?

When my car developed the dreaded squeal / scream I had 3 sets of brake pads, including modified ones fitted, and had all the disc's replaced. Then the dealership replaced the callipers but the squeal was still there. I was then told that it was a known fault of the Brembos fitted to the L494 and that JLR did not have a fix.

How can this fault now be across the whole 2016 / 2017 Land Rover range regardless of the type of callipers or the model they are fitted to?

I'm sure you had the squeal on your cars but probably at a much lesser extent. As I said, I have experienced this on various cars now and a brand new MY17 with hardly any miles on the clock - in fact the MY17 was the loudest of the lot!

And yes I also had the modified brake pads fitted - TWICE. The sound keeps coming back!

I have no idea why...sorry!

Weird.

No squeal at all from my RRS or the wife's Ewok.

Although my driving has been known to maker her squeal. But not the brakes. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with certain cleaning products used!!?

Maybe the brakes react with something in the cleaners...mmm

I lean more toward a usage pattern than anything else, possibly giving glazed pads? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I did have it

and ended up with a complete rear brake setup replacement. Calipers, disks and pads, mine is however a 2011 so I do not think its a recent issue Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Wilf, what about cars that are delivered with the problem? I think that JLR have bought a cheap batch of pads and won't admit that they have put profit ahead of Quality Control.......
