United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Orkney Grey
USB Socket

Hi last week I bought a 2012 RRS.
Today when I tried to connect my iPod for the first time, and selected iPod from the 'my music' screen I just got the message 'Please connect iPod'.
If I plug in USB Stick I get the same 'Please connect device'
Anyone have any ideas, I'm thinking maybe broken wire in armrest, or possibly blown fuse as neither socket will charge iPod either.
Regards Tim

Mine did the same when I connected both my iPod and USB stick. It took a few minutes for the stars to align then it indexed and I was up and running. Give it try again, 2018 Telsa MS

If it is a broken wire you can buy a new wiring harness link to replace it without replaceing compete harness, just a plug and play section.

Cheers

Drove to work this morning, a 20 minute drive, with USB selected, no luck.
Drove home this afternoon with iPod connected, also no luck.
But I did notice it appears to be charging iPod so I think that rules out blown fuse, and possibly broken wire.
Any ideas ?

What format is the USB? It needs to be FAT16/32. Also, I think it only reads MP3 files.

Thanks for the advice,
I have just formatted a USB to fat 32, put a few MP3 files on it, but still no joy Neutral

I may have solved this! My USB (which happened to be 16 GB) only worked intermittently, and was slow to load when it did work. I looked for another USB to try, and first found an old 0.5 GB one. I uploaded three CDs to that (which filled it), and it worked instantly. I then put the same three CDs on a 2 GB USB and it was almost as quick to load. The 16 GB one is still intermittent, indeed wouldn't work at all last time I tried. I therefore conclude that in their incessant drive to go backwards, JLR have installed a USB port which won't accept large memory USBs, or USB 3, and that therefore you will have to scour your house for ten-year old USBs to suit the 'latest' RRS technology. I anticipate that in the same spirit of technological retreat, the next RRS will only have 2G rather than the very latest 3G it has now! Mad

Cynicism apart, however, it looks like you need a low capacity USB, as well as one formatted FAT 32, with MP3 files.

I have this Thumb drive:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LLE...&psc=1

I formatted it to FAT32 and have loaded Music, Films and TV shows on it which work perfectly on the front and rear entertainment screens.

Documented here: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic42231.html

You amaze me, as my 17MY car wouldn't read even a 16 GB USB reliably, whereas it works perfectly with smaller memory USBs. Is there something special about this Thumb Drive that makes it better? (Indeed, what is a Thumb Drive?)

I drove to work this morning and it started playing Very Happy
But would only play 2 out of the 3 MP3 files I put on USB stick.
After a while stopped playing and said connect USB then would play again.
Did this several times
Couldn't put anymore files on as I don't have any music in MP3 format,
It's all Wma, how do I convert it ?
