Swinging weights near rear exhaust boxs on my2012

Hello, while washing the sport I noticed 2 large swinging cast blocks at either side close to the exhaust outlets.
What are these for?

I have them on my autobiography. Every time you go over a bump they swing into the bumper. Are they really needed??

I have them on my Autobiography but never heard them hitting the bumper or maybe I just need to turn off the stereo and pay more attention. I feel and hear every bump in mine on 20 inch wheels so wouldn't notice it anyway. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

If they move that much it sounds like the rubber they are mounted on has perished. Mine don't move enough to touch the bumper. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

Yes the dampers are required.
The transmission and driveline causes a harmonic distortion which these are designed to overcome.
In effect if you sit in the rear of a RRS or FFRR, without these there is a booming drumming sensation.
Don't take them off, they are designed for the frequency harmonics

Worse we're the Jag S type where you would see these sitting in car parks after falling off....
