Can this be justified or is it just another insurance co. scam?

The premium is based on their risk exposure. Your claim indicates you are a higher risk so the premium goes up.

Sometimes the insurance company will use the premium increase as a way to get you to move to a different insurer. If they think you're a high risk then they'll basically "scare you off". 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Been with Direct Line for years. Premium went up 10% or so on renewal, but when I logged into their website and acted like a new customer the quote was much less!! So I called up and after a right faff I got 240 off. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Admiral tried to hike our premium by 500 after a falling tree damaged our car.

They wouldn't have it that it was a no-fault claim and we had to pay 500 XS.

Needless to say Admiral lost two customers both with 11 years NCD. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

I have Admiral multi-car policy. when I called up to add the SVR I got some similar surprises

- having parents on the policy increases premium where it used to do the opposite.
- cheaper to go in the garage (but mine doesn't fit)
- they did say there was a discount for tracker. I think mine is cat6

even after making a number of adjustments it was still 50% higher than my previous car. so the wife tore them apart for 20 minutes and got an additional 15% off Laughing SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

MY RRS was insured with Privilege (Underwritten by Direct Line) for year 1 and year two - this year they said they would not insure unless I added a tracker - I moved to Admiral. Strange !

All my previous cars have been in the wife's name, and in this country insurance of the car can only be done on the owners name.
Got the RRS last April in my name and insurance was a little shy of 2000 a year - fully comp, 40 years old, parked on road in Helsinki. no previous bonuses. so i started with the minimum.
the law changed in finland on 01.01.2017 that you could use your partners insurance bonuses - much like the UK has of just adding a named driver.
asked my insurance company about this and he offered me straight away 40% bonus. saving 400 a year.
"and if i use my wife's bonuses?"
- she would have to be added as an additional owner to the car and then you use her bonus of 65%, which equates to 800 saving per year.

I have admiral multicar policies for the 3 cars in my family. The quote goes up considerably ever year so i have to ring them up ask them why, and then they usually drop it to less than the year before. Just a process i have to go through each year.

But be careful with their windscreen cover. There's an excess to pay, usually 25 for chip repairs and 100 for complete replacement.

Oh, and they reduced my son's no claims discount because he rang them to ask if an incident would be covered (he never made a claim) but they registered it as an 18 claim for the cost of getting a quote!

I'm still with them because their price on the multicar is good, but beware.

My insurance dropped 150 this year.

Surrey based. Fully comp inc. business cover for me and my wife.

Only difference was another years ncb (protected).

Was previously with Admiral, they did everything they could to reduce the price but they couldn't match what I was offered.

All in for 322.

will you spill the beans and tell us who that's with?

And to think that at all times the risk was exactly the same. Is it any wonder that people think so poorly of insurance companies. Rolling Eyes

I have an Admiral Multicar policy with 3 cars on it and every year make a call to have it reduced from the silly renewal figure. Takes about 20 mins of chatting to the agent to get extra discounts added! MY16 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography in Aleutian silver, stealth pack and toys.

I am currently paying 500 for my MY10 TDV6 with Tesco, they can't quote on my prospective L494 as they couldn't find the Land Rover InControl Secure tracker in their list. Rolling Eyes

The cheapest I am getting for a MY16 SDV6 Autobio is 800 through Privilege, the rest are 1k+.

Land Rover wanted 6.2k Laughing I phoned them to check that wasn't a mistake - it's due to the London effect. MY16 SDV6 Autobiography

I heard a recent You and Yours on BBC Radio4 about hikes in premium - apparrently (according to the ABI) small bumps on cars fitted with Adaptive Headlights, Surround Cameras, Wing mirror mounted cameras, reversing cams, parking sensors, adaptive cruise and sensors for auto on headlights/ wipers, roadsign recognition and lane departure systems are costing the earth to fix causing premiums to climb................. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Last year my premium was 379 with Direct Line for my 2016 RRSport, now looking to renew in April and quotes so far have ranged from 800 to 1500..!

Not sure why such large increases, I will be 70 in April, does this make much difference?

Also when trying to use comparison websites the car reg number shows correct car with no tracker fitted, so when trying to amend the spec to include tracker nothing listed for Landrover InControl Secure which is a Cat 6 tracker apparently, so cannot select anything. Arrived - RRSport 2016 HSE SDV6 HSE
