Hello,

My car has developed a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger wheel. It also sounds and feels like the tyre is flat (which its not) as you drive at low speeds.

Has anyone got an idea on what it might be please?

Have a drive around and then stop and feel the rear wheels to see if either are warm to the touch. If one wheel is warm and the other cold it could be a sticking rear brake caliper or handbrake release mechanism. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

I assume your choice of the word "rattle"was intentional. If it were more of a grinding noise (perhaps like the flat tyre you mentioned) I'd check the wheel bearing as well Robin

Mine is currently in the dealers after there was a vibration like a rear tyre was out of balance or had a flat spot. Turns out it is both a seizing calliper and on the opposite side a sticking handbrake release mechanism. One wheel was warm/hot (seizing calliper side) and the other cold.
I'm wondering if the rattle is the rear brake pads moving against the calliper as the disc rotates? I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

I had the same symtoms,rattling on OSR wheel, which then led to the wheel locking up. It turned out to be the EPB shoe,had delaminated from the shoe carrier and eventually jammed the disc solid. Luckly this happened on way to get it sorted and not on main road.
Had to have new EPB shoe,disc and fitting kit and to top it off,it also broke one of the cables on the EPB module, so replaced that as well.An expensive time.
This was possibly all caused by the incorrectly fitted new discs,pads,fitted by thecar sales garage (Canfield garage,dunmow) just prior to purchase,with less than 1000 miles had been done, and of course the waste of paper warranty had just ran out 1 week before.so they were no t interested at all.

oh dear, sounds like an unfortunate set of events. I've booked mine in to be looked at on Wednesday so fingers crossed its something simple.

i had my brake pads and disks replaced back in August so hopefully not the same problem you suffered.

Timing is a bit rubbish as i was in the process of getting an advert together to sell the car

Heard from the garage today that the rear propshaft had collapsed which is what was causing the rattle and clunking. new part ordered from land rover and just over an hour to fit
