Andy K. Good point, the 2.7 filter if not located correctly can, sorry WILL wreck the engine. Plus the filter does not simply drop out.

1. You need a large socket to undo. ?

2. You need to fit the seal into the groove on the housing.

3. Most important, put filter on the car first, locate the filter nipple back into the hole on the car.
It's very important you do this, otherwise it can wreck the engine.

Put surround back on the tighten up till it stops. No need to tighten further.

And If it's in off road mode to get the sheild off and the sump plug, you need a box to stand on to reach the filter unless your 7 ft tall...

30 second job to have a look at it order from AF in the sponsors section then another 30 seconds to fit it when it arrives

hope you get better than my "mates rates" did the niece's rear brakes and it turned out I got 25p/hour

I've done better than that and got "a mug of tea" per hour

The only absolute thing to make sure is that the oil filter is replaced correctly. Everything else is undoing nuts and bolts and replacing parts. Servicing is not rocket science and if you're handy enough around an engine then I'm sure with a point in the right direction you'll be fine.

FWIW I service all my cars, always have. This includes our RRS and my porsches (apart from my turbo which gets a stamp every year because 911 turbo folk are a peculiar breed). I've never had a problem selling any cars because the invoices linked to the service schedule and photos of the process are far better than a stamp in a book. Any old codger can cut up a potato and put a stamp in.

If you don't have the car in front of you and haven't done it before then you aren't going to know immediately what to do, even if you've been a mechanic all your life in a small garage. Asking for help is better than cocking it up IMO.

I don't often contribute on here but do check in regularly and would like to see how you get on.

Oil counter reset - Sorry if teaching granny to suck eggs, however I assume you understand DPF's and how they work plus how they dilute the engine oil thus impacting the oil level and quality.. The oil counter calculates the this, also partial cycles/interrupted/regeneration not completed. If the oil counter reset is not done then you will not be able to read the correct oil level.

Completed the service today.

'Hardest' part was the under tray bolts had been put on so tight that I need a breaker bar and some heat to take them off. Also, one bolt was rounded.

Fuel filter was a bit fiddly.

I cannot see a 'service required' message on the dashboard/screen - what does it look like? In any case, been referred to a friend of a friend who has the relevant diagnostic kit to reset the service message/interval.

I noticed that all 4 tyres are wearing on the inside so I might start with tracking the vehicle first. Also, front brake pads need doing so will sort all this and then put it in for MOT and my good deeds are done.
