I know this has probably been asked before,

What is the best cleaner to remove stubborn brake dust from your wheels? Fed up of black bits in the corners of the front alloys!

A few years ago I cleaned them thoroughly with brick acid, but thought this was a bit strong when the Tarmac stared bubbling!

Don't want to risk the acid again! 😳

If cleaned regularly, I find normal detergent works fine.

Ive used this for the last 10 years,,you can put it on neat if they are really bad or dilute if they are fairly clean.you will also need a stiff brush to agitate if it's baked on.

Thanks for the replies and links, Yes plenty of cold tea over here - Never get change to drink it whilst its warm! So that's where I'll start as a trial, if it doesn't work I get some of the stuff from the ebay links.

This is what I use, when things are really bad I use a much stronger dilution, (also available in 1 litre rtu spray bottles) but most the time I'm using it at about 10% with plenty of agitation and a power rinse my wheels come up spotless.

Used to be able to buy that from Halfords was about £12 for 1 tin then. It's a simple spray on and leave works well but not the most durable.

It's a hard wax that takes time to evenly coat, once dried very easy to buff off and it's not just for wheels, you can use it on most surfaces. There are many others to look at like poorboys wheel wax, auto finesse mint rims are just a few to mention. Even ordinary car wax will work but it's not really designed for the hot fallout from brake dust so deteriorates quickly.

I bought some Valetpro Dragons Breath the other day to try as people were saying how good it was so thought I would test it to see if it was any good or just a fancy gimmick turning purple if it came it to contact with iron deposits.

Sprayed it on left for 5 minutes then washed off with the pressure washer and wheels came up spotless and it's PH natural.

Only bad point was the smell of the stuff but I would recommend it if your wheels are very dirty but a bit overkill if you keep your wheels clean most of the time. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

Just tried a new to me product this morning as it comes highly recommended by Auto Express.

Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel, very impressive stuff. Not cheap but it is seriously good.
Spray on, spread it around a little with a soft brush to ensure all of the wheel is covered, watch as it turns a deep red colour (weird) rinse off. Gleaming wheels.

Know what you mean. The first time I used Iron-X (works exactly the same way) was amazed.

But now you have rid your wheels of all the ingrained metallic brake dust particles its really important that you treat them with something to seal the surface, or you'll be back to square one.

There are vast numbers of sealers - and some that claim to be special 'wheel sealers' but all seem to work in much the same way. I've tried Auto Glym wheel protector, Auto Glym extra gloss protection and Zaino 2 pro show car polish. None of them last forever but make regular washing of the wheels or any other painted surface soooooo... much easier. I'm convinced the time taken to apply is paid back in the time saved cleaning. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
