I believe you are eligible for a full refund of your deposit if you cancel your order. I put down £1000 on a new BMW 435 and about a month later changed my mind. Dealer tried playing hard ball and not giving deposit back, but I did a 5 minute Google search and threw a few legal terms at them and they soon paid me the deposit back. For £1500 I would be threatening to cancel the order. My rule is if they've not had to go and have a talk with the sales manager your not getting the best deal anyway. We all know they just go and make a cup of tea and don't talk to anyone. 2012 RRS SDV6

How far into your order were you, though? My car is already delivered to the dealer, so I find it hard to believe they couldn't legally keep my deposit. As for the Sales Manager, I dealt with him personally. |

Much as it's tempting to give advice, it will be useless unless we had a copy of the contract. You must have been given one. What does it say? |

It was around a month after order, so still a few months away. Yours may be different, but I would still tell them I am considering cancelling, £1500 for a bit of discussion is not bad. I've had that with sales manager, and he had to check with dealer principle, was a damned good deal at the end. 2012 RRS SDV6 2014 BMW 320d X-Drive Touring 1999 VW Polo stage rally car |

No, I never got a contract as such. Just an order, which probably acts as a contract, but it doesn't contain any clauses relevant to this situation. Maybe I'm missing out on something? |

That's probably just the order form for the purchase of the car. Any loan should be covered by a Loan Agreement of which you should have been given a copy. |

Exactly, so it gives no information about what would happen in the event of cancellation after the car was built and delivered. Yes, I've got the HP contract, but that's not relevant the this particular issue. |

You're right. The contribution against the price of the car is on condition you take out a loan. If there's nothing in the Loan Agreement about the contribution in the event of repaying it, it should all be yours.

Ok I get it. You got 6% off the car. The dealers half of the deposit contribution has been adjusted against the dealers 6%discount. You either get the discount or the dealer contribution. Some people have managed to get both it's pretty rare to get a discount of 6% and a dealer contribution!

It does to some extent, thanks. I was beginning to come to this conclusion myself, having previously laboured under the misapprehension that the whole £3,000 came from LR, and that the dealer was keeping some for himself. The one thing that still leaves a bad taste is that the 6% discount was an increase on what I'd previously been offered granted because the dealer made a mess of my order and missed off things that I'd ordered originally. I had the option to cancel which would have cost them more as the build was already fixed, and this extra discount was in compensation. By reducing my loan contribution they have effectively put the discount back where it was originally. They also promised me that they would look favourably at my trade-in value come the day, whereas in reality they reduced what I'd been offered (as recently as mid-November) by £1,500 on the grounds that no-one wants 4x4s in Spring (so I'm now down to 'webuyanycar' prices). This effectively took away some more of my theoretical discount. The compensatory element has thus now disappeared (plus a bit more besides). |

The 4x4 not selling in Spring is frankly bullshit tbh. My My15 RRS was on sale privately since November last year and I had nothing but time wasters "wots your best price cash mate" trying it on all winter throughout Dec and Jan...as soon as Feb came to an end I had 4 serious enquiries and the car has just been sold (awaiting pick up) - In the end I had a guy who left me his number and said if the sale falls through call me and I will buy at your asking price! I think people want a nice crisp white RRS for the summer |
