Hi guys,
Has anyone modified there exhaust system on a 3.0L TDV6, if so, what did you do and how did it affect the sound of your car?

On that logic, why buy a RRS at all?

If you look round the site you may be able to find the 'before and after' video clips that Disco_Mikey posted. He removed the central resonator on his Disco. Can't remember if it was a 2.7 or 3.0 though.

The tricky part about exhaust modifications (in general, I've not touched my RRS) is to avoid droning at certain speeds. Its very easy to make something that sounds insane when you open it up, but will rattle your fillings loose at 50mph on the m6.

Not to discourage you, just be careful.

I removed the cat on my D4, makes a nice whistle at low revs and no other kind of noise at speed.

Also a minor bump in low speed performance Thumbs Up --

50mph on the M6 Shocked Rolling with laughter

I've changed the exhaust on mine but being a petrol it's a quieter engine. That being said instead of the 4 cans you have at stock I now have only 1. It's biblical when you drop the hammer, but driving normally it's not that much different. Cruising at 70 and it's exactly the same, however pulling uphill at 30 or 50 and you do get quite a lot of drone.

Changing to a stainless system (for me) has made quite a big difference to my mpg, previously when I went to visit family in the north (250 miles) it would use just over 3/4 of a tank now I use just over 1/2 a tank. Round town I used to get around 12mpg that can be held at 16mpg now. Cruising on the motorway I could get 22mpg this is now 24mpg (If I reset the counter I can be cruising at 28mpg but as soon as there is a hill it starts to drop).

The stock system is a massive lump and relatively difficult to lift with both hands, the system I fitted I could easily lift with 1 hand. So with the weight and fuel savings (I'm sure there will have been a persormance boost but I can't say I really noticed it) and the fact that a custom stainless system not only costs less than a stock system but has a lifetime warranty; it seems like a bit of a no brainer really..

Thanks for the input guys,
I must say I didn't take the constant drone into consideration Confused
Theres an exhaust place round the corner from me and they'll build a new straight through system for it for £150.
I'll have too see how it goes and let you all know! 20

£150 is way too cheap. You should be looking at prices around the £700 mark. Not only that but you don't want a straight through system, it will be deafening. At the very least you want a blend box to balance the gasses. Thumbs Up

What would you recommend I get done? I could get a few of the boxes took out, but i've read that some people have had that done and it's made no difference. This place has been going for years and they are REALLY cheap, I know a lot of people that have gone there and i've heard nothing but good reviews 20

at £150 I doubt it will be a stainless exhaust, it would cost him more than that in stock. I recieved quotes ranging from £1200 to the cheapest being £600. If you're comfortable with the chap then go for it.

I can't comment on how loud your engine is but diesels have a much louder exhaust note due to the higher compression, so what will sound great on a petrol will be too loud on a diesel and so to in reverse.

If you're friends with the garage ask them if they can chop out a box at a time and weld in a couple of straight pipes, that way you can butcher the existing exhaust finding a level that you're happy with before you make it from stainless steel.
