Fuel rail - high pressure fault

Evening all,

My SE SDv6 has now done 13,000kms since picking up in mid-Aug. Has been a great performer for me, particularly in the fuel economy stakes. I am averaging 8.8l/100kms using as a daily driver of a minimum 90kms a day.

However, in the last couple of weeks a recurring issue has arisen. I keep getting a fault (high pressure in fuel rail) pop up resulting in reduced performance. I can clear the error with my code reading tool, but the fault keeps coming back.

Have had it back to the dealer twice. First time they tested the fuel rail pressure sensor but could not find a fault (I had cleared before taking to the dealer). The second time I called roadside assist and had it towed with the fault still active. Dealer replaced the sensor and the high pressure fuel pump, but a day later the fault was back. It is going back to the dealer tomorrow morning for its third visit.

Am interested to see if anyone else has had this fault, and if it was able to be resolved. Am wondering if it is a logic issue rather than a mechanical one.

Cheers Cameron

Wondering if there is a way to test the actual pressure. I know the pressure is extremely high but a test should decide the issue. Swapping out components hoping one is at fault can be a very frustrating way to find a fault. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

So after the third visit to the dealer, and sitting in the workshop for 5 weeks this time around, it looks as though the issue has been resolved. A full set of new injectors looks to be the fix. This is after replacing the high pressure fuel pump twice, the low pressure fuel pump, removing the fuel tank and fuel lines to be checked for any damage during the build, replacing the pressure sensor, and checking all electrical connections.

Will wait until they perform some more testing on Monday to confirm the fault does not reoccur, and then I hope to be able to take it home. Cameron

Rarely come across JLR injector issues before (or at least not at this age).

How strange that your car is so afflicted! Still if it fixes the issue I guess. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Quite strange all injectors are being replaced, perhaps this is because they can't determine which ones are faulty or they think something has contaminated fuel and affected all the injectors. You must be real P!ssed about this, I know what it is like just trying to get parking sensors working on a new car. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

So I finally picked up the vehicle last night. Have done 100kms and no fault has appeared.

Issue was finally traced to a fault in the Powertrain Control Unit. Was not a software issue as had any updates loaded earlier on in the search for the problem, so believe it was a hardware issue. Maybe a cold solder on a board or something. May find out one day if it gets sent back to the techs. There was only one spare unit in the country, so obviously do not replace this very often. Cameron

Well you got a lot of new parts because the dealer or RR Australia didn't know WTF they were doing to start with. Good result for you after the long wait. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
