>=MY16, gearbox

Hello All

After a long wait, my SDV6 HSE Dynamic in Loire Blue with stealth pack will be ready for collection on Friday 24th. Very stoked and can't wait Smile

I'm still crawling the net for all kind of information about MY17 RRS's. And I have a technical question, but not sure if anyone can answer it.

Until MY15(.5), the SDV6 engine was 292HP/215kW with 600Nm of torque. The gearbox is a ZF 8-Speed 8HP70 with max torque 700Nm (since 2012, even before the facelift/new generation I think).

Since MY16 the SDV6 engine was upgraded to 306HP/225kW with 700Nm of torque.

Does someone know whether Landrover has upgraded the gearbox from MY16 on to a 8HP75 or even 8HP90, or did they leave it at an 8HP70 with zero tolerance between max engine torque and max specified torque for the gearbox?

Cheers,
Tinu

My research has shown they have stuck with the 8HP70, would be nice to think there was some spare tolerance... the ZF gear box is a great box though and I trust the homework was done properly.. 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

Thanks, because I didn't find any information on this topic I assume so as well.

Thank you for clarifying!

A little background to my question: While crawling the net, I inevitably stumbled over the topic of "chip tuning".

Look at this offer: https://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk/car_and_van_d...P9900.html

That's 16% over the limit of the gearbox with the 306hp/700Nm engine. None of the chip tuning companies (box or ECU remap) talk about other components like clutch or gearbox which have to withstand the increased power and torque as well.

With the same company as above's offer for the 292hp/600Nm engine, with 691Nm one would be under the 700Nm limit of the (same) gearbox.

It's a dangerous game I think... Better buy a faster car in the first place, there are many options in this price range Smile

Cheers,
Tinu

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Which is why car makers invariably void warranties when they find remaps and chips on cars still in warranty........ When RRS was first launched in 2005 the S,SE and HSE without optional DR Pack could not run 20" wheels - the steering rack was not up to the extra loads. Customers fitted them anyway and dealers reported it back to LR at service time. 20"wheel upgrades became so popular that LR upgraded the steering rack on S SE and HSE for 2007MY so running bigger wheels was no longer an issue. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
