Rear interior lights ?

Picked up my RRS 2012 this morning but tonight when getting out noticed the rear has no lights that come on when you open the doors apart from the puddle lights in the bottom of the doors.
There is a map reading light in both rear quarters but these only seem to work when you switch them on and don't go out once doors are shut.
Am I missing something or is their just no lights fitted in the rear ? Front comes on as does the boot light when doors are opened.

I'm sure that's normal - members have modded them in the past to light up when doors are opened - do they light up when the rear doors are opened ?? 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

The front centre light boot light and puddle lights come on when door is opened but not the rear map lights. If you turn on rear map lights they stay on when doors are closed.

Just checked mine - on opening rear doors the rear quarter lights do not light up - I know from experience that when these are turned on manually they will stay on until switched to the normal position Big Cry 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Ok Peachy thanks for the info. I don't really care as I don't get in the back but took my parents out for a ride and my mum said you can't see b*gger all in the back when your trying to get in or out with no light.

I've got the same year car (new to me Jan 2017) and did the mod to have the rear map lights come on with the other interior lights, simples. Takes an hour or so of some minor electrical and fiddling yet well worth it.

Have a look at: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic20566.html

I really don't know why Land Rover did this to the RRS. My old Disco 2 had rear lights come on when you opened the doors, why not the RRS?.

I have upgraded the interior lights with brighter LEDs which has improved things a bit but its still not good enough really.

Just to many lights coming on when opening doors, but a "option" switch would have been more sensible.
I have my rear lights to come on automatically, sorted by Bosch Electronics Services in 45 Mins for me. Thumbs Up
But do have a new type 120amp 950amp CCA stop/go Battery which doesn't seem to drain like the standard ones with short journeys etc. John

I was amazed to find the JLR designed the RRS with no rear automatic overhead courtesy lights. I seem to recall that my old Hillman Hunter of 1970s vintage had the facility to have them permanently off, permenantly on, or switched via door opening. How was the RRS design in any way an advantage Question Robin

I think it was a bit of a cock up when they converted the Disco into an RRS.

The D3 with its high roof line has rear center lights.

But the RRS has the alarm sensor there.

So they had a rummage through the ford electrical accessories book and found the lights we have today.

The lights aren't really designed to come on when the doors are open (Although many have converted them to) or maybe it was a case of, here are some lights , they will have to do, its what we can do last minute.

And here are my tips on doing the mod:

I think this is ridiculous, the RR classic that my parents had in the 80s had a dome light in the back!

Didn't it just have one dome light to cover the front and back ?

In fairness I bet they never had a flat battery Smile

I remember it as have a dome light in the front and a dome light in the back, but I have drunk a huge quantity of beer since the 80s, so I couldn't say for certain Smile
