A couple of year ago I added Day Running Lights to my 2006 Sport. The battery ( two years old and not a cheap one) has developed a fault - it's not holding its charge as it should - this has been the situation of some time but very noticeable in the cold weather when the car stands for a few days. I have had the battery checked out and it is in good order and its suggested there must be a power leak somewhere. As the Day Running Lights are connected directly up to the battery I wondered if they were causing a problem so I took out the fuse thinking that would deactivate them - but it didn't! THEY STILL REMAINED ON with the engine running - that cannot be right surely? Could this be causing he problem?!? Andrew Kennedy

They can't be connected directly to the battery surely?They would be on permanently if that was the case!

use a voltage detector to sense when the engine is running

an additional wire for lights on to dim the DRL

Why not connect to an ignition live?

A good question.


Because

1) DIYer struggles to find an ignition live and is dead easy to connect to the battery terminals

2) They like them to come on only when the engine is running

fuse box on the right hand side of the engine bay,second fuse down on the right(25amp heated seats)Ignition live nice and easy to get to

1. That is an ignition live, not an engine run live.

2. Put yourself in the position of an aftermarket DRL seller. Are you going to specify where to get an ignition live from on every car? or are you going to knock up a £3 circuit which will do the job for you, do other things (dimming) and be easy for Joe blogs on the street to fit to their hot hatch.


P.S I've connected mine to ignition, i'm just telling you that it why such kits exist and are on ebay.
