2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Zermatt Silver
You just never know

I've had a 56 plate sport for 6 months now, I absolutely love the car, I looked all over before I found what I was looking for, which was a low owner, low mileage example.

I took it for its MOT, the first since I've owned it and it got a clean bill of health.

Just dropped it off at my local indy ( well respected) for its 10 year service ( first since I've owned it) to include transfer box oil , Miller oils and genuine filters ( £380 ) which I thought was fair.

Just had a call from the garage asking who last serviced and MOTd it as the sump plug was wound in with mastic and the brake pipes were corroded so badly they were nearly twice their original size....

We Agreed to helicoil the sump plug, fit new brake pipes and new front pads...... £380 is now £900 !! Ffs !! Big Cry Series 3 gone
90 gone
Freelander v6 gone ( thirsty pig )
Defender gone
Ktm 1290 SA (gone)
BMW 1200 GSA

Go back to the seller as they've obviously taken the Censored and you should still be under warranty. New sump and cover the cost of the rapairs etc.

If it's a private seller you've no come back, if the brake pipes are that bad now I would imagine it should have been an advisory on last MOT.
The brake pipes seem to fail anything after about 4 years so for them to be corroded on a 10 year old car is part of the joys of owning an older car, had to have mine done on a 2007 they had been an advisory for 3 years running.
The bodged sump plug is naughty but the seller may not of even known this unless they did his own servicing. Nanocom Evo

Its the way it goes, mine split the inlet manifold within the first two weeks of ownership, waiting on parts and a space at the local indy, but looking £500+ labour to sort it. Hopefully this doesnt happen often

Best taking a warranty on these vehicles if you can, doesn't cover everything but definitely helped me after oil pump failed meaning a new engine shortly followed by Hydraulic pipes for ACE system bursting, nothing is ever cheap to replace. Nanocom Evo

Mines warranty wise, I paid 1200 for 2 years with 100 excess, I only opted for 4 k cover though never expecting a new engine would ever be needed, the 4K they paid certainly helped, they've also paid for a wheel bearing too, still got 10 months cover left too.

The cover depends on age and mileage of the vehicle and by no means covers everything.

The RAC warranty is better than nothing, costs about £80 on top of your breakdown cover and they will pay up to £750 five times a year, the car needs to be attended by the RAC at the roadside for this though so doesn't cover wear and tear.
My warranty wise cover doesn't cover pipes but the RAC covered my ace pipes when they went as the dashboard said pull over safely so they had to recover it. Had all front pipes done at a cost of over £900 warranty paid £750 of it.

These things eat alternators so he RAC cover as minimum is a no brainer to me . Nanocom Evo
