MY16 vs. MY17 SVR's

I hope I've got my MYxx dates correct. I have a 15 plate SVR but its in for some work. They gave my a 66 plate SVR as a courtesy car. So I thought I'd share my thoughts:

- suspension in auto mode feels firmer in newer model
- suspension in dynamic mode seems much firmer than my car
- not convinced there is an advantage to the 10 inch screen in the dash over the 8 inch screen.
- overall in-car entertainment system is much faster to respond to button presses
- I love the seat heating control also built-in to the twisty temperature controls
- front lights seem brighter at night.
- exhaust note in dynamic mode sounds a little more aggressive than in auto/non-dynamic mode but with button pressed.
- the engine auto on/off button has its logic reversed so its more natural. light on = off
- whenever you park the car pressing the P it automatically puts on the handbrake (mine doesn't)
- whenever you park the car it automatically drops to the lowest suspension setting for easy in/out (mine stays where it is)
- window washer spray (3 nozzles not 2) - sprays once and wipes once (clean). doesn't re-wipe a few times afterwards which often just stains the glass.
- sexy rear view mirror - i guess its from the f-type R Jag. much smaller than the '15 RR mirror
- nice little SVR badge inside the cabin above the glove-box
- slightly different front seats with softer leg bolsters.

interested in anybody's thoughts of the changes ... SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

maybe it's telling you it's time to upgrade to a 2017MY................... Judging by the prices being asked for SVR's on the Approved used website you won't loose very much (or dealers are making a killing on marking them up), I think the cheapest I've seen there for a 15plate in White with no options and 28000 miles (so well above average miles) is £85k, most seem to be in the £95k+ area, even 2 years old low milers are being sold at £90k+ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hi andymc,

I have an SVR registered May1st 2016 and the only points I can comment on without driving a new one is that:

-I find the infotainment system response ok, certainly a lot quicker than my previous 2010 RRS.
-I have the twist temperature control for seat heating as well as operation on the in car entertainment screen so if your using sat Nav you don't have to enter into the seat heating menu and lose the sat Nav on the main screen, but, it still stays on the HUD and in the centre of the speedo/rev counter anyway.
-There is a notable difference with exhaust note even with button pressed when dynamic and sport mode is selected
-I think the logical way for stop/start is light on system working light off it's not but you do have an indication in the dash display as well.
-Yes, the handbrake comes on auto when pressing P,
-Double check your vehicle settings on the dash menu as you can set the car to go to access height automatically if required.
Window washer spray does have 3 nozzles but I've never counted the amount of wipes Whistle

Mine has just hit 4,750 miles and it is definitely changing with regards to the way it drives and goes down the road but to be honest I drive like a little old lady and rarely give it the " beans" but when i do it literally feels like it wants to take off Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I cant comment on a my16 svr but I did have a my16 3.0.

the 10" screen alone isn't something to shout about but the tech behind it is so much faster and upto date. Along with the dials with a speedo you can see as per my photo. You also get the full size sat nav screen and speed camera display on the new sat nav you don't get this tech in a my16.

Reverse camera is a wider view on the my17.
parking brake on my17 comes on auto on my16 it didn't when pressing P
car dropping to access height I think was on all cars my16 onwards.

IIRC one of the changes for 2017MY was that whether you like it or not the car will lower to access height on stopping the ignition/ going into P. It shouldn't lower if the stop start operates at traffic lights though. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Oh, and of course - the rear view mirror !!

on my car its the standard large RR mirror. On this new SVR it was a smaller but much sleeker mirror with glass right to the edges of a nicely shaped unit. looks like it should belong in the F-type R and not a RR. Very pretty but a bit too small. SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh
