From the handbook Thumbs Up

Quote:
TOWING THE VEHICLE ON FOUR
WHEELS

Do not remove the Smart Key from the
vehicle as this will lock the steering
column.

If the vehicle battery is to be
disconnected, the steering column
must be unlocked first. It is not
possible to unlock the steering column
with the battery disconnected.

If the engine cannot be used during
towing, there will be no power
assistance to the braking or steering
systems. This will result in much
greater effort to steer and stop the
vehicle and in a greatly increased
stopping distance.

Only tow the vehicle in a forward
direction with all four wheels on the
ground. Towing in a reverse direction
with two wheels on the ground, will
cause serious damage to the
transmission.

The vehicle should only be towed for a
maximum of 50 km (30 miles), at a
maximum speed of 50 km/h (30 mph).

Towing for a greater distance or at a
higher speed, may result in serious
damage to the transmission.

Do not tow the vehicle if the gearbox
cannot be set in neutral, or the rear
electronic differential has failed in the
locked position.

Your vehicle has a permanent four-wheel drive system
and is fitted with a steering lock. The following procedure
must be carried out carefully to prevent damage to the vehicle:

1. Secure the towing attachment from the
recovery vehicle to the front towing point.

2. With the parking brake applied, switch on
the ignition.

3. Apply the foot brake and place the gear
lever into neutral.

4. Switch off the ignition and leave the Smart
Key in a secure place within the vehicle.

5. The ignition may be switched on to allow
operation of indicators, brake lamps etc.

6. Release the parking brake before towing
the vehicle.

Leaving the ignition switched on for
extended periods will drain the vehicle
battery.

AFTER TOWING ON FOUR WHEELS

1. Apply the parking brake.

2. Switch on the ignition and apply the foot
brake.

3. Place the auto selector lever in the park
position.

4. Switch off the ignition and remove the
Smart Key from the vehicle.

5. Remove the towing attachment and refit
the cover to the front towing point.

Use extreme caution when detaching
towing equipment. Vehicle movement
is possible which can result in serious
injury.

Me too.....Land rover told my wife it was gonna cost 4K to put right which had her in tears as she thought it was all her fault. I'd told her she couldn't mis fuel it as it had a special device in place to stop it happening. Well that didn't work did it!?!?
Been reading lots on the web about people who have fell foul of this device not doing what it's meant to........Hayho MY 11 RRS Luxury Stornoway Grey Ivory/Black leather contrast stitching Logic7 side steps roof DVD system for the grand daughter. Not much consolation but the price quoted for misfuel rectification from an LR dealer is because they will dismantle the complete fuel system from the fuel pumps in the tank to the cylinders and replace very washer, nylon nut and O ring in the system because there is a chemical in petrol that according to LR will dissolve every one of them very quickly................. IIRC LR will quote £8000 for a misfuelled TDV8.............. basically a new engine! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thing is there is a misfueling device fitted and it obviously doesn't work for this to happen - I know a Disco Sport owner who challenged this and got it sorted as goodwill Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

they are companies out there who will siphon the fuel out for you, maybe worth a shot and then fill it with diesel before driving it to the nearest indie for an inspection 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

i done this exact same thing last sunday, just wasnt thinking picked up the nozzle started filling and just remembered thinking to myself "damn it stinks even more of petrol than usual", looked down to see i was holding the green pump, wtf! I had 1/4 tank in and put in £29.26! so i reversed up about 10 meters switched off, called my recovery company (gem motor assist) who sent these guys out, they took 90 mins to get to me and about 30 mins to drain the tank suck my fuel lines clear put a camera in to see all gone and filled me up with 10 litres of diesel with a can of fuel additive which wqas not essential but i choose to pay extra for it. Total charge £196! but i can claim back 50% from GEM.

Best to avoid going near the fuel tank.

It runs along the driver side above a metal tray, problem is the tray also holds the tank up!

I would like to think that you could remove the fuel filter, put a bucket? etc under there, turn the ignition on and work out which pipe fuel pours out of, and then draining this off into a container by removing the fuel pump fuse under the bonnet and applying power there (or bypass the relay if its there)

Well I managed to tow the old girl home today with the aid of my m8. I'm glad my van is automatic as it makes towing so much easier. So I've forked out £26 for a new filter and going to do it Sunday, I recon it's gonna take me that long to work up the Enthusiasm. Does anyone know if I can raise the car without the engine running as that would make getting to the fuel filter so much easier.
