My car has been in with a Land Rover specialist today. Really helpful and friendly, but I'm just hoping to avoid some costs if at all possible.

Here's what needs doing. The fluid changes are a request of my own rather than a recommendation. I doubt they've ever been done and I want peace of mind as I use the car every day.

- Parking brake module needs replacing as it's failed - £977
- Rear parking sensors were working, fronts never have in my ownership. The rears stopped recently as well anyway, so the specialist has recommended replacing both harnesses in the hope that they're faulty. There's a "short to ground" at both ends - Around £130 per end including new harness and labour
- Headlight washer pump needs replacing. I can't remember the cost for this but won't be terrible and they'll do it at the same time as replacing the front sensor harness
- Transmission fluid change with new, upgraded sump - £477
- Front and rear diff oil change at around £110 including labour

Are there any ways I could look to save money on this? Let's just say it's not ideal for me right now lol. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but I'm not mechanically minded.

My advice?

Ditch the parking brake module. Who ever uses the parking brake on an automatic? But will be needed for its next MOT?

Yeah I've been using park with no issues anyway, but it will need it in the future of course so I may as well get it done; although perhaps not at this moment in time with all the other things being more pressing IMO.

Time to get into DIY !

Well when it warms up, in March?


I would do the gearbox change yourself. Don't change the filter, pump all the oil out the front. Can be done for less than £100.

Do the diffs yourself for about £28. It's not urgent.

I would add the transfer box to the list, £60? if you do yourself.


What milage is on it ?

Parking brake module has been known to be repaired but replacement should be no where near that price parking sensors eventually fail - they are battered by the elements day in day out - usually the front. If fault codes was read & they have identified the sensors this can be a DIY job if it is the looms - again another DIY job.
I can't comment on fluid changes but Bodsy or Disco Mikey will give you more advice on those issues. I would hold fire for a bit  16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Module is about right if it needs replaced, along with new shoes/discs/pads etc. Though we don't know why it needs replaced. They can be unjammed internally

PDC fault is most likely a sensor short circuited internally. Logs the same fault code for front + rear, even if only 1 sensor is at fault

Takes 15 mins to replace, with or without the bumper on

Sump is a little pricey. I charge £350

Diff oils are a little pricey also, but not hugely so

Depending on age / mileage of your RRS consider a warranty, they aren't cheap to maintain and something like the handbrake module may have been covered had you been covered, doesn't help with preventative / service items though. Nanocom Evo
