Leaving the fold!

Ladies & gents, following trading in my RRS I have now sold the last of my RRS extras so will be leaving the group.

Unfortunately spending 3.5k per year on average over the last 3 years became a bit tiring despite loving the car!

I'd like to say thanks to everyone here for the advice, chats & banter. Good luck with your beasts! Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

A 2014 2.0 TDCi Ford Mondeo estate Business edition.

I'm already getting 500 miles per tank on a smaller tank than the RRS. And I don't get the feeling that it could break down at any second, like I did with the RRS! Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

I too am on the verge of flight.

I have lost my love affair with RRS and just can't shrug my shoulders at the meterioric depreciation of the product.

What that level of depreciation tells us is that the vehicle was overpriced to begin with and aimed primarily at business lease hire customers to whom price is immaterial.

I for one am not going to invest another 80k to see it worth 30k by the time it's out of warranty. That's a mugs game and I have learned my lesson at long last.

Good bye JLR but I'm out as soon as as I can off-load the beast. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

If you were to keep it for 10 years then the investment wouldn't seam to bad ?

After all most of the money has been lost now ?

If things keep breaking, then I can understand it...

Firstly I wouldn't, as you recommend, really want to be driving a 10 year old car simply to justify the depreciation.

Secondly JLR products are notoriously expensive to maintain in their twilight years. That is the main reason their second hand value is negligible.

I think I will return to Porsche 911 ownership. The 911 maybe hasn't the presence of an RRS but the 911 doesn't date or depreciate meteorically.

The only problem is getting used to the sitting-on-the-ground driving position. I'm not a youngster any longer.

Maybe you need a well looked after late TDi300 Defender........... total outlay for repairs on mine last year (at 20 years old) was 450 for a new tailgate door complete with paint job, re-used the old heated rear screen, new rear wiper motor and arm, new swingaway spare wheel carrier and annual service with MOT. It's now 21 and this I expect I will have a total 500 bill as it is due it's third cam/timing belt change in August on elapsed time not on miles as it has only racked up 89000 miles in 20.5 years. It's never broken down, is now doing 1500-2000 mostly off-road miles in mud and gloop a year. It will get annual service and MOT in April and even better it is now appreciating gently in value...........

But after posting this I see you live in London.................. 21 year old Defenders cannot go inside the London Low Emissions Zone which might be a problem for you. When mine was MOT'd last year the garage reckoned they had had to check their emissions testing equipment as the emissions are down there with the modern Land Rover cars! Not that I would want to drive mine all the way from Scotland and into the LLEZ, I have an RRS for that kind of drive. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

But a 1998 V8 Auto 50th Anniversary Defender is OK for the LEZ and I know someone who has one for sale. Whistle

And moreover I can't get my head around owning a car that requires body off to do relatively minor repairs. Or for that matter body off for any repair is ridiculous.

Imagine you hit a problem whilst driving through Albania (heaven forbid) I'm sure they don't have body off experience.

What other car needs that approach? RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary
