Sounds like your rear view camera is not right.
I have my MY17 car for 3 weeks now. The system takes about 5 sec to boot up, but by the time I select reverse it is definitely up

"Sorted", yeah kind of.

It's been back twice as they have a mind of their own. I've now given up and accepted that once they have either deployed randomly (the last time whilst driving down a dual carriageway) or failed to deploy, just access the menu settings and either switch them on or recycle them and they work again for another week.

I'm hoping a software update will be coming that resolves the matter.

Hopefully sorted soon.

I've decided to take my car and once the steps are sorted for MY17 I'll take it back in.
