Loud vibration inside the car (engine off too!)

Hi everyone,

Today when driving around the city with my family i heard a loud vibration in the 15\20 mph region. I obviously panicked and tried to understand where this last was coming from.
The vibration can be heard and felt underneath the gearstick and reaches its peak at 15mph and becomes quiet after 30mph.

I did not lose any power and the car goes well. I asked my unhappy wife (she hated the whole situation) to drive it off while i stand outside the car and i could not hear any noise.

The noise is the same if: Vehicle is in drive, Vehicle is in neutral but coasting at 15mph, the vehicle is with the engine switched off but coasting at 15mph.

Do you guys have any idea of what happened there? My car is a 2005 2.7 TDV6 with full service and 120k miles on the clock.

Thanks beforehand,

Joe. Current: RRS 06 with 115.000miles
Garage: 1967 Shelby GT 500 fully restored with 13.000miles
Garage: 1973 Buick Riviera boat-tail 455 engine with 55.000 original miles

Owned previously for everyday use: BMW X3 3.0d

Wife: 2006 Mini Cooper S (trying to explain her she would look much better on a 80' Defender)

Before I start , just to say that I am no expert by any means. And I've only had my RRS since March so no great experience with them so this might be worth zilch.
However from your description it sounds like you can rule out engine or gearbox problems. So it has to be drive train after gearbox. And as it only occurs between 15 & 30 mph, it sounds like something out of balance. Propshaft???
I'm sure our resident experts will be along shortly to clarify your situation. Robin

The rubber bush around the carrier bearing on the prop is renowned for going. Get it on a ramp and check that.

Don't let a garage (only a non LR specialist/dealer will/might do this) talk you into replacing just the bearing if it is gone. You've done 120k miles it will be ready for replacement and they aren't that expensive or difficult to fit.
