I've had the same problem with mine. Found the only way to get over this problem is to turn ignition on and wait for glow plug light to go off. Then repeat this 3-4 times and then mine starts fine. |

Thanks for the replies.....Already done this but still won't start! It failed to start again this morning as we had quite a hard frost, tried again a couple of hours later and off it went. I was wondering if it could possibly be an issue with condensation freezing in an air sensor or some other electronic gizmo?? |

Thanks, not being that machanically minded I didn't even know there was a heater fitted as standard! Now that I know the standard unit clearly doesn't work, other than checking the fuse ( which is ok) I don't know what else I can do to fix the issue myself. Are these units you mentioned designed to work in conjunction with the standard item or are they an alternative? If I got the standard item replaced / repaired shouldn't that resolve the issue I'm having? Thanks again for you help gents. |

The supplementary heater normally works once the engine has been started. It was originally intended to have a user defined function to allow timed starting before the engine was started. LR software wasn't good enough and the option was removed. Units are available, such as those mentioned above, that allow us to implement that timed/remote activation facility for the heater.

This shouldn’t be necessary, there is another underlying fault giving the problem. If everything is in working order, the glow time determined by the relative ECU and the sensors feeding it the signals, should enable a first start no matter what weather we experience in this country. I had exactly the same issue with a previously owned car (not a LR). Went through the same process of replacing battery, glowplugs, relays and sensors and in the end, it was the starter motor. Worked ok on warm days but with very cold frosty starts, the failing starter motor would struggle to spin the engine quickly enough to create the sufficient compression required for ignition |

I Have this exact same problem on my 2.7 tdv6 Once the outside temp falls below 0, my range will turn over but no start. If i open the bonnet and warm up the Coolant Temp sensor with a hairdryer for only about 5 seconds or so she will fire up... I've changed the sensor and it still won't fire... i found this video on youtube of a guy with the exact same problem to give you an idea what mine is doing ... Any idea's ??? |

I was a bit sceptical about this but I gave it a try. I poured a small amount of hot water from a kettle over the sensor, turned ignition on, waited for glow plug light to go out and then it started perfectly first time |

Ive had the same problem and tried this trick, car fired first turn of the key. Is it just a case of changing the sensor to rectify the problem |
