Mitsubishi shogun

Hi guys,
My friend you owns a 2003 shogun equipped DI-D 3.2 diesel is having starting issues
It sometimes starts runs for about 15 sec bellows out loads of smoke then cuts out .
Fault codes are ad follows all under the cruise control heading

23 eci
22 brake stop
15 cont stop
And anyone help please as he's a dear old friend of mine
