If LR manages to register it before 2359 on 31 March then you will save £1550 in "luxury car tax" over the first 5 years but may loose out with the higher current VED (I don't know what an SDv8's emission are offhand) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It falls in the 201 to 225 CO2 band. I did a calculation a while ago based on tax figures quoted in the paper and it worked out at £560 more in year 1, £160 more in years 2 to 6, and £150 less thereafter. So, after 3 years you would be £880 worse off, after 5 years down £1,200, and after 10 years down £760. You would have to keep the car 12 years to be better off under the new system. Compared directly with the SDV8, an SDV6 would be £800 cheaper over 5 years (albeit still dearer than now), while a S/C petrol V8 would be yet another £1,535! |

So big incentive to buy a Tesla P90D with Ludicruous mode instead of an SVR with a noisey exhaust note and a few options.

Yep, will hold on to my SDv6 until the Jaguar i-Pace gets closer. Rumour has it that it won't need Ludicruous mode as in standard form it will out haul both an RRS SVR and an F Type SVR at the traffic light Grand Prix................. all for a £5 recharge and no VED (and doubtless as much range on a full charge as either of them!)! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

All vehicles, including 100% electric will pay the £310 supplement for the first 5 years when 'standard' duty is required. To me this implies years 2-6 of the vehicle's life although there is some ambiguity out there. The winners (long term) are the two current highest bands, they break even far quicker then pay only £140 per year for the life of the car after the £310 supplement comes to an end. So two cars, one registerd in March 2017, the other April 2017 pay £515 and £140 respectively for the rest of the life of the vehicle.
