RRS2 roof bars - no roof rails

Hello All

I have a MY17 SDV6 HSE Dynamic on order, Loire blue / black pack / black contrast roof. Build date is 16.1., delivery should be around end of Feb '17.

Now, I am researching solutions for roof bars. I do not have (nor want) the OEM roof rails.

So long, I found these bars that are marked as compatible with the RRS2 with no roof rail:

Do you guys know other alternative solutions for the RRS2?

Or, as another possibility, to DIY add roof rails: Range Rover Sport 2 ab Bj. 14 Dachreling "OE Style", sorry website only in german.

I'm not sure how to express this in propper english, but I like these "OE style" aftermarket rails better than the original ones because they have this air gap, I could even try to fit my "old" Thule WingBar Edge which I use on my current RRE with roof rails.

Cheers,
Tinu

Why not have the OE accessory roof rails? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Hi !

I'm a bit confused. Have you ordered the OE bars that go length ways along the roof? I wasn't aware of any way around having these fitted? I'm getting my car next week and I think they really spoil the clean lines of the roof etc. So are you just talking about other makes of bars that go across the car ?

Hi Wilf

Well, there are three main reasons:

    - Usage: On the RRE, I used my roofbox like 1-2x a year. The RRS2 boot is larger, I don't necessarily need the box anymore.

    - Cost: As a dealer fitted accessory, my dealer told me it costs ~CHF1800 (£1400) fitted. I don't want to spend that much for a nice-to-have (see above).

    - Car height: With the OEM roof rails plus standard bars like from Thule (plus the box on top), the overall height of the vehicle is so large that it does not fit into the garage, neither at home nor in the holiday flat. With the OE style bars I mentioned above, I could try to fit my existing low profile WingBar. Might save me some cm in height, but still not sure if it fits into the garage.

Cheers,
Tinu

No, I did not order the OE rails (you're talking about the rails right?), I don't like them and they are way to expensive for my usage once or twice a year.

The OE roof rails do not have this gap like the aftermarket ones do:

Thats why I could fit the low-profile Thule WingBar I already have, they fit around the rail:

With the OE rail, you need bars that clamp onto the rail, not possible to fit the WingBar.

I hope I was able to explain my thoughts correctly?

Cheers,
Tinu

wow.. thanks for the link Renaco ! So those just fix onto the roof without the rails? That will save me £800, plus I really hate the look of them with the rails !! It doesn't scratch the car ... I only use twice a year for skiing with a roof box ! Those look great of they are slick and don't damage the car at all?

No damages if you mount it on a clean roof.
I use similar systems since 15 years 10 times a year and I never would order the roof rails.

I got it from a german store, he ordered for me as they still dont stock the rack.

Hello Renaco

I have about the same requirements as alexa111s.

Yes this product is the 3rd link in my original post. I just would have to find a reseller that sends to Switzerland or a reseller that is inside the EU (for my german shipping address). Rackoutfitters or AutoPartsWarehouse (both US) don't ship outside US as far as I could see, APW would offer Bongo International service (now Fedex) but that makes it expensive, like double the price advertised.

I see you're from Munich. Where did you get your Rhino-Rack from?

Cheers,
Tinu

Thanks @Renaco and @jimbg for the infos.

The Rhino-Rack Vortex 2500 RS Black may not be the cheapest no-roof-rail solution for the RRS2, but in terms of styling certainly it is the best imho as it has no overhanging bars, is black like the contrast roof and is also some kind of low-profile and with the wing design of the bars.

I think I will go that route when I have the new car.

Cheers,
Martin
