AdBlue diesel top up - heads up if you have a My 16 or later

Those of you with My 16 diesel models note that the AdBlue additive tends to run out at circa 8000 miles. It may not be looked at during your service. We had the lovely experience (1 month after a service I add) when after a 600 mile journey to Loch Ness a large orange warning triangle popped up on the dash telling me to 'top up' the diesel with this additive.. I hit the 'panic' button and called land-rover service who talked me through looking at the service menu, under oils, and reading off that my AdBlue only had 800 miles left before it run out. Which is not great when you are 600 miles from home and about to tour Scotland! .. Spent half a day visiting Inverness Land Rover dealer (Macrae &Dick) who did a few checks, topped up the AdBlue and 90 minutes later (and well looked after BTW) we were sorted (covered by the service plan) The top up was 18 litres of the stuff!!!...you get c 500 miles per litre depending on driving style,, So if you are going in for a service make sure you tell the dealer to check this as it doesn't appear that they will automatically check it, especially if you are about to do a big journey ie to the Alps or a summer vakay. Because from what I can see if it runs out you can't drive the car...although you apparently can buy euro 6 in petrol stations you need to make sure it is compatible with LR....

You have been warned. P400e HSE Portofino Blue and Ivory Seats.. it's like a yacht!!

I think it's often referred to as 'Adblue'. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Our MY16 has just had its first service at MacRea & Dick, Inverness. Service was done at 6000 miles, I checked the Service Menu when I booked the car in and it told me I had another 9000+ miles to go on the Adblue. After the service it was up to 16000, which is what the car read when new.

Maybe yours was not full when new or it may be down to driving style/usage. We live in the sticks, no traffic and 'fast' A roads - lets just say more power would be nice!

Glad to hear M&D sorted you out, as LR dealers go they are very good.

My Adblue warning came on at 6700 miles on DS and lots of chatter on discosportforum about early refills and LR halving the original distance for top ups on literature Exclamation

Had to have my Adblue tank topped up at around 9k miles. Luckily, free Adblue refills are part of the service pack. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Don't bother buying from a dealer, its sold for trucks in most large service centres, motorists shops.

If you a running low the engine will keep going but if you stop it wont start until topped up, so not a big deal to car some.

Our X5 has a message with a count down.

My first service was at just over 10,000 miles and adblue was still showing good for another few thousand miles in the instrument panel. They refilled it without me having to tell them and this was reflected in the service menu too. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
