Hi Naks. Your comments about engine failures intrigued me. I had the opportunity to speak with an engineer who is "in the know" yesterday and he confirmed that the 3.0V6 Diesels had the issue you pointed to of no locating tags on the bearing shells, leading to bottom end failures. Why this affected more cars in export markets I don't know. And why it affected RRs more than Jags I also don't know. But I do understand a mod was introduced, on all 3.0 diesels used after the August '15 factory shutdown. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems. Is the V8D a proper twin turbo now or still just a single turbo on each bank?

Your comment from the someone in the know is interesting, but seeing how JLR have ignored the problem all along and passed the buck to the customer, I do not trust anything they say. As for the LR vs Jag, well, the D4/RRS is way heavier than the Jag, so maybe that's a factor? Vehicles in ZA/Oz/export markets are driven a lot more & on longer distances than in UK/EU. For example, I can drive 1000km in one day easy at cruise speed and not even get to my destination. And Oz is even bigger than ZA! Also, the quality of diesel in ZA (not sure about Oz) is not that great - we only have 50ppm in the cities, and it's mostly 500ppm in the rural areas. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport Supercharged V8 HSE Dynamic Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |
