Hi all,


I've recently bought a 2010 SC (car now has 67K mileage) and a major service needs doing (seen "service needed" on the dashboard for the first time today).
Car has always been serviced at Guy Salmon, last service (90K mile) was carried out on November last year.


From what I've been told next service that needs doing is the following:
105,000 miles/ 168,000 km or 84 months service

1013938 PLUG - OIL DRAIN 1
LR011279 FILTER - OIL - ELEMENT AND SEAL 1
LR032080 SPARK PLUG 8.0
LR011327 BELT - ACCESSORY DRIVE 1
LR012625 V-BELT 1
LR023977 FILTER- ODOUR AND PARTICLES 1
STC4687 SCREEN WASH
WSS-M2C925A ENGINE OIL 5w-20 8.0

I live in Fleet, Hampshire and have found three dealerships that are relatively close to me and below are their quotes for this service:
Hunters Land Rover Service Centre: Guildford - £837.88
Guy Salmon: Ascot - £958.21
Harwoods: Basingstoke - £782.87

I would really appreciate your input and advice.
Do I just go with the cheaper one or more expensive ones are better?

Do you need to keep Full LR service history or are you happy to use a non-franchise Land Rover specialist because they are just as good, often better, and a whole lot cheaper than using a franchised dealer. Try rovertune in reading for a quote. All my work gets done there and they are good (quite a few good comments on here about them too). If you email them, they will quote you a price... 2010 TDV8

Filters you can replace yourself as well as the oil so you may be better off looking into doing this yourself. The startup cost will be a one time thing to get the tools you'll need but I have done all the oil changes myself and I'm telling you it is SUPER easy.

That said why do they need to replace the oil drain plug? That thing has a belly pan covering it so it's not subject to dirt, salt or water unless you really are taking it off road all the time and never clean the underside (which you should do after every off road trek). Also, keep in mind that a text book oil change on our models is always done through a drain tube running from the bottom of the oil pan all the way up to the fill port via the suction method so the oil drain plug isn't even touched. That service is just a money grab. If they really wanted to save you money they'd drain the oil, remove and clean the drain plug or replace the washer if it has one, and screw it back on. And as always these are things you can do yourself even if you are not mechanically inclined. Check out this video as it shows the exact method I use to do my oil changes.

Following are the new offers that I've got:
Keith Gott:
The 105000 miles service including Spark plug and supercharger drive belt replacement would be £637.30 inc vat.

Rovertune:
£582.76 plus VAT (699.31 incl)

Keith Gott is the first service that mentioned anything about a supercharger belt.
Rovertune has sent a pdf where it says the following about it:
"Renew Supercharger Drive Belt every 105,000 miles, or every 7 years, whichever occurs sooner"

Rovertune has however suggested I also change the brake fluid.

What would be your final suggestions, if you were to choose between Keith Gott and Rovertune. I see both places are well regarded by their customers.

Update:
Called Geith Gott for more info and having been impressed by what was told and how I was spoken to I have booked with them for the next Friday.
It really felt like the person I spoke to was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Will update this thread post next Friday's service.

P.S. The supercharger belt is actually something that others referred to as "Ancillary Belt Secondary".

Did you have a look at the video I posted for you? Trust me, it is sooooo easy. Once you've done it using the exact same tools you will never want to take it to a tech to do it for you. It's just a waste of money.

If you purchased it with a warranty then I can understand but I can tell you that I did my own oil changes while my CPO warranty (issued by Land Rover Canada) was active and not once did the dealership deny me any coverage as a direct result.... And I managed to rack up over 30k worth of warranty work.

Tomorrow I'll be leaving my rrs for servicing.
Is there anything in addition to the list I posted above that is worth checking?
Maybe air suspension, or active stabilisers or maybe something else?
Please let me know what you would have checked or serviced.
