2012 Range Rover Sport - Powered Tailgate strut went BANG

Passenger side motorised tailgate strut went bang today. Must be completely trashed internally as tailgate was stuck half closed and it was a loud mechanical bang. Eventually, with a lot of pushing (it would close by hand two inches and then need opening by hand an inch to get the next 2" close) we closed it to get home.

Has anyone replaced one of this a (quick) look here and via google did not show any instructions? 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

So I have swapped the strut for a new replacement strut.

The powered tailgate operation is now intermittent. Sometimes it just clicks open and doesnt rise. Sometimes it opens fully but then will not close.

I think that the system needs some sort of reset in the same way that the automatic powered windows need to be "taught" what the fully open and fully closed positions are.

The only think I can find on the Internet is how to set a lower height for the opening point, however doing this does not seem to fix it.

Does anyone have information on this? 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit
