Hi, have you ruled the 2.7 out and if so why ??, i have the 2.7 and it's not bad at all, it will never be a 3.6 0r 4.2sc on performance but it ain't bad on fuel at all if your after MPG Thumbs Up

Hi Gornal
We currently have a full size RR TD6 (3.0 diesel) and it feels very underpowered, so assumed the 2.7 would be even more sluggish (no offence to you, just what we are used to thats all) Plus the small miles we do, probably less that 6k a year now I thought a 4.2 SC would offer most for a decent price.

Open to discussion though as totally new to RR Sport's Thumbs Up

The 2.7 TDV6 is a much higher performance engine than the old BMW 3.0d in the old RR which was a bit of a slug. 07MY RRS TDV6

I think the 4.2 is a better designed engine though than the TDV6 2.7

I agree, a 2.7 will leave a BMW 3.0 standing, and if you add a BAS remap, then your not far behind the 3.0 Sport. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

I went from a 3.0 TD6 FFRR SE to the then new 2005 2.7V6 RRS SE, chalk and cheese. Grumbly rattly BMW engine was not their finest and that was intentional as BMW were developing their better diesel engines for their then unannounced X5. The RRS was smoother, quieter and more economical. However, as you are only doing short trips then the petrol would make more sense. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've got a 2010 TDV8 and personally I think it's all the engine I'd need in a RRS. It's surprisingly nippy and sounds awesome. I'm not sure much extra performance would be wise or useful in this type of car. It may be called a "sport" but it's not exactly a sports car. The TDV8 can show a clean pair of heels to most warm hatches and overtakes with ease.

Thanks again all
Interesting about the 2.7 and apologies for comparing it to the full sized 3.0 TD6, we had ours remapped and its better, but still slow.

Now got to find myself a decent, early (if possible) low mileage 4.2 SC in black with black leather, feel free to point me towards any guys.

While I'm asking, are any of you guys experts or very knowledgable in the Herts/Essex areas? Am thinking if/when I find one, would be happy to pay you for your time to give a 2nd opinion on one?

That's pricy. 1/3 more than it needs to be ?

I think I noticed one on ebay or autotrader yesterday. Didn't say SC but it looked it from the badge. Was a 2005

I Did contemplate selling mine which has had everything done and it low miles, black and black leather but think i have decided against it.

You should manage to get an early SC for around the 10k mark. Try and get one that has had recent suspension arms front and rear aswell as ARB bushes and drop links as these are quite expensive and commonly require changing.

Thanks smiler, I've seen a few down my way (London/South east) for between £13k to £14k 2005/06 with 60k to 70k miles, so dont think too bad with FSH?

Those repairs you listed, what sort of money would I be looking at please (roughly) to get it all done if it hadnt been done? Are we talking £500, £1000 or £2000, just so i know. And what symptoms would you get if they ere knackered?

Thanks again

I did all mine myself and it was a few months back now but if i remember they were not cheap. Probably looking at around £1500 in parts alone so best see if you can get one that has had all the bushes already. If the arms have never been off the bolts usually require to be cut off aswell which is a right pain.

You will also require a full 4 wheel alignment once they have been changed.

Usual symptoms if they are worn is knocking (loads of threads regarding knocking), a wondering/loose feeling when driving and uneven tyre wear.
