front timing belt tensioner

I finally got round to doing my front belt today, everything has gone well so far until I got to the tensioner. I have read that the notch (alt. recess) on the tensioner should line up with the window on the black plate, however I'm finding that instead of the notch/indentation lining up, the "ridge" is lining up with the window. I have the Dayco timing belt kit, if this makes any difference:

Have I been confused by the terminology, i.e. "notch" v's" "ridge", or have I done something wrong with the tensioner. Yes, I am tightening it anti-clockwise and the belt does seem sufficiently tight when comparing it with the old belt tenion.

Thank you Mikey, I can now go ahead and turn the engine over before putting everything back together.

Just need to check the orientation of the belt, there weren't any arrows on the new one so I'll be checking the printed text for guidance.

HELP :-(

well this is going badly, any advice would be very welcome please. Tensioner is set and so I took out the cam pulley locking pins, tightened the cam pulley bolts and then went to turn the engine over manually at the crankshaft; I managed a few pulls of the wrench and then I hit a wall, it stopped turning. Big Cry Big Cry I am turning the wrench clockwise.

So far I have done everything according to the "how-to" section (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic53674.html), marked the crankshaft with paint and nothing has moved (decided not to fit the crankshaft locking too), so I wonder, why isn't the crankshaft budging? Did you mark the crank AND lock the cams?

EDIT: does it come to a "hard" stop, or are you fighting against the engine compression? Let's just make sure Laughing Thumbs Up

AS you know its a good time to stop just right there Evil or Very Mad I personally wouldnt do a cambelt on a tdv6 without using the correct tools to lock out the cams and crankshaft. There is no key way in the crankshaft pully so no timing marks on it hence the tool to lock out the crank in TDC, once locked out and the cam pins in, its a doddle.

Tip ex............... can but not all the time causes problems

need any help just ask
