2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Java Black
Rear Differential Problems

Hi ...

I have a 2015 RRS HSE Dynamic and wondered if anyone else has had problems with the rear diff ?

I recently discovered oil blobs all over the driveway and discovered it was coming from the rear diff. With the car still been under warranty I rang the land rover assist for help. AA came out as Land Rover had know body available as usual, then the car was recovered and taken to Farnell Leeds and I received a discovery sport courtesy car from Thrifty.

The car has now been with them almost a week and no repairs have even started ? Why ? I asked. They told me as its the rear differential the head office want them to carry out some tests, one of the tests named a FRED test; on the parts and take all the serial numbers ? They also told me that there Technicians told head office it needs a new diff, so why not just replace it and have the car on its way back to me ?

I'm failing to see why and the only thing I can think of is the cost of a new diff, that they are trying to avoid. I have heard all kinds of situations regarding repaired diffs, and that they are ok for a while and then the problems start again ! So I am a bit concerned and want them not to cut corners and just fit what is required. After all I have spent a lot of money over the years with them and think the service needs to be better than it is !

I'm a little frustrated with land to say the least. 1. My last 2015 RRS spewed its transmission oil over my new block paved driveway, cracked transmission case, due to a fault in the manufacturing this eventually lead to a replacement veichle of similar spec.

2. The one before that 2013 RRS had trouble with the air suspension and front shocks went.

So as yo can see .... im not impressed !!!

Sound's like you've had quite a lot of bad luck, I would however get in touch with landrover care and explain to them how you've spent a fortune with them and this is your third machine that's not been right, they may be able to compensate you some how.

Seems a bit extreme that an oil leak would mean that the diff is goosed, I mean it could well be but on a nearly 2 year old car I would've been more inclined to say it's an oil seal. Especially as they've done no work on it (Surely you would need to remove the prop or drop the remaining oil to know if the diff has gone).
