TDV6 2.7 Range Rover Sport center resonator exhaust - doubt
Hello guys, I would like to have some suggestion from you about my RRS 2.7 TDV6 2006, that I own since 6-7 years and now has reach 105.000 km.
I’ve always made standard mainteinance since one month ago that I started to make a more accurate mainteinance, checking the most important things, so I just changed practically all fluids (engine oil, brake, transmission, differential F/R, transfer box, steering), filters and also front lower steering arm.
Most of these work I used to do by myself when I have time.
After doing these jobs, OBD diagnostic revealed an error at EGR valve, that I resolved just blanking it 2 days ago, and I took the chance to remove the entire throttle body to clean it from all the sludge present inside.
Then another faulty by OBD, the MAF sensor, and now I realize why it was pretty lazy in the highway or just to make a normal surpass; I’m gonna change it in a couple of days, hopefully then the car will be much more smoother.
After all these maintainance I dediced to dedicate my attention to the exhaust system, and I swear, I read all possible post and I’ve seen and search so many videos but I still haven’t found a nice sound for the TDV6.
I don’t like Griffin or Cobra sound for example, I think they are just too loud for my tastes.
I’m waiting to install a decat pipe, but I doubt the sound its gonna change noticeably, maybe it won’t change nothing.
I wouldn’t want to remove the two ending muffler, so one option I would like to give a try is swap the big canister (the n°4 in the diagram) with something more open.
There’s plenty of resonator to give a try, my only doubt is installing a straight muffler in the middle, like a Magnaflow I was looking for, the loud could become insane. Maybe there’s other kind of resonator that can be fit in the space of the big box (that seems to be more or less 70 cm lenght)…
Those muffler I was looking for appears to be more suitable for V8 or American engine, so I really can’t imagine how could they perform.
Offset is another thing to consider, because the big box has one pipe coming from headers and then it goes out with two. I measure the diameter of the inlet of the big resonator that is 2.75”, and the two pipes that comes out and goes through the end are 2”. So that’s not easy, there would need adaptor and lot of welding.
I don’t have experience with exhaust on diesel engine, if they tend to be much quieter than petrol. The goal is to find the perfect match of sound to increase the tone of my RR without being too much intrusive.
I bet the big canister of the TDV6 its completely baffled inside, maybe too much restrictive, that’s why the sound is like whispered, silent, so the second option I was considering is to just change the two rear muffler leaving the big center one to obtain a nicer sound. Not cheaper than first option cause I would need to buy 2 little muffler…
Hard to say until I don’t try what could be nice, its only that those kind of experiment are gonna be expensive (I just made for other car but not as big as RRS) so I would like some suggestion and then trying to go for it.
I’m not looking for performance increase, maybe the only mod that could give a couple of bhp is just decat, for performance I will be looking for a remap in a next future…
Sorry for my English and thanks in advance to everybody!

After other searching I found out that Flowmaster make 2 model of muffler that seems to be quieter than a straight through.
The 70 series
and the 50
Any suggestion!?
