Spain 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Fuji White
Whine from engine between idle and 1,000 revs.

My 2010 MY TDV6 has developed a whine from idle to about 1,000 revs. It is still there when the aircon, fan etc are turned off. It get louder when I bring the revs up but stops at about 1,000 revs. I guess it is something that is being driven by the engine. My mileage is 60k miles. Any ideas before I talk to the dealer? Next week I am driving from Spain to Scotland and would like to make it without detouring to a dealer on the way, or worse! RRS 2011 TDV6 HSE Limited Edition, Fuji. Well fellow RRSporters, didn't get any response to my original post.

To update you on progress, I got as far as Glasgow and had the whine diagnosed as a faulty alternator. Booked my car in for a replacement. Day before my appointment and parked in the centre of town, disaster. Got back to car to battery totally discharged and smell of burning. Had to access by metal key. Called recovery people who connected battery pack, started car, drove it onto trailer, and car taken to repair garage. Looks like alternator has burned out but will find out extent of damage tomorrow.

Will continue with update when I get more info.

DON'T WAIT AS LONG AS I DID TO HAVE ANY NEW WHINE OR ENGINE NOISE CHECKED OUT!

Alternator fried plus fuel pump relay. Replaced with Denso unit £280, which is same as fitted by Land Rover. Battery OK and no other issues, thank goodness.

Can actually feel the difference when driving.

As you said, always best to get things investigated or at a minimum, check for any fault codes logged at a LR dealership or with something like the Gap Diagnostic IID BT Tool or similar.
Glad you are sorted and your mobile again. Smile John
