TDV8 white smoke under boost

Hi !

I noticed that now and then the dipstick on my '08 TDV8 would push up and spray oil all over the engine. I then replaced the o ring on the dipstick for a more positive fit and it was ok for a week. Then I noticed that under boost the car would start smoking (white/ light grey smoke, not black) after a couple of seconds under boost, but not if I keep out of the boost, and that it would push oil out somewhere from the engine towards the firewall on the drivers side (I could see see the oil dripping off the exhaust in the region of the turbo there) with some smoke then coming from the engine bay. Could a blocked crankcase breather be at fault? That it was pushing the dipstick up with crankcase pressure? Injectors was taken out and checked by the shop I took it to, but they tested fine (I actually thought I could not beee injectors as the smoke was white.... but I could've been wrong...) They did mention that they saw oil on the pistons but I thought it couls be pushed past the injector seals from crankcasee pressure, and that they wanted to do a compression test. Any thoughts?

Hi Leon
My TDv8 has started popping the dipstick as well but only when I give the throttle a nudge. The car also blows white smoke from the LH bank when starting then it clears ok. Obviously crankcase is pressurising, but from where? Any update on your issue/s? in LR we trust

Hi!

I took my car in to have the injectors checked. They all checked out ok, but in the dismantling and re-assembly process, they also cleaned out the breather system. Now she's perfect! It seems it was an issue on the breather system. Hope it helps

After finding the relevant info and a diagram of the back end of the engine, it seems likely it's the same with mine - the symptoms match. Thanks for the reply. in LR we trust
