AB front bumper DRL's - UPDATE!!

Looking to mount some non genuine DRL's in my AB front bumper as in the pic below, does anyone know how the genuine LR ones are mounted? Are the plastic sections where they are mounted 'knockouts?' and are there mounts that fit in these sections to mount the DRL's??

Thanks in advance

John

No they are not "Knock Out" parts you have to cut a section away, there are mountings that then fit behind to mount the lamps too, but they are part of the L/R kit and you cannot buy the kit in individual parts or at least you were never able to but may be different now.

Cheers

I think those "official" strip DRLs look a bit tragic. I have the Osram fog light replacment DRLs which, in my option, look significantly better.

Thanks for the info Col, looking forward to having a go at this now! Do you know the best place to find an ignition live to connect these to?

Thanks again

John

Thanks for the reply, I have seen these on a RRS near me, and to be honest there not my cup of tea, just look like they have there fog lights on from a distance.

I have also seen a couple with the genuine DRL's and love how they look, especially with the standard leds in the headlights! Each to there own

Recently fitted O/F front bumper with DRL's and they take the ignition live from the heated front seat relay in the engine bay fuse box, I'm not sure I kept the wiring diagram will have a look to se if I can find it. I also found a ignition live in the main plug that connects to the headlamp unit itself but can't remember which wire it was it was certainly down towards the bottom of the plug something like pin no. 14 but with multi meter should be easy to find.

Cheers

Fortunately everybody has different tastes but have to agree with J2D I'm afraid to me they just look like a pair of fog lights switched on.

John,

I managed to find instructions but they are slightly the worse for wear but if you PM me a email address I will send them to you as a PDF, I'm reasonably sure you will mange to read them if magnified a bit. They are quite simple to follow. Laughing

Will include fitting instructions for genuine L/R ones although it is a older copy, but would of thought they are the same.

Cheers
Col

Hi Col

Would it be possible for you to email me a copy of those fitting instructions, please? PM sent.

I'm planning fitting the genuine DRL's once I get it back from the dealer, not for vanity, but more as an awareness to help other drivers as my wife has managed to crash every other car we've owned Evil or Very Mad

They are exactly the ones I purchased! They were delivered today, just been out trying them out. First impressions are they are very bright, very impressed with them.

They as have a good feature of staying on for 30 seconds after you turn the engine off, and give you the option to have them at 30% or completely off when connected to the sidelights or headlights.

I am going to attempt to fit these the our 2011 plate Sport at the weekend, and from what Col has said above, I'm hoping to find an ignition live from the headlight.

Couple of questions -

Should I connect the dimming feature to the Headlights or Sidelights? (Like the idea of having the sidelights and DRL's on at the same time when starting to get dark, but not too dark)

Can I find a permanent live from any of the headlight pins?

Thanks in advance

John
