Oh dear. Needed new tyres on the front offside. Took it to Halfords as they had the tyres pretty cheap, thought how bad could they be at fitting a tyre?? Just taken a look in the bay and they've not put it on a ramp but just jacked it and it's not in off-road height either. Let's hope the car doesn't throw a wobbly on the way home.

Well got it back after an hour! Guy told me you've got a problem with your suspension. It was in terrain Lo mode when I got in.

Guy told me it's the compressor. Not sure how they came to that conclusion without actually checking the components and well I'm Not sure what they were trying to do to be honest. If it had been put into off-road height there would have been no issues.

I got home, went into access mode no issues, off-road height again no issues. Standard height......also good. The compressor and every sensor was only changed a year and a half ago.

I'll double check for any issues when the OH brings home the IIDTool.

It is absolutely fine to jack up just one wheel although best to make sure jack is in the correct place and has a soft pad like a hockey puck or similar. Putting the car in off road height means less jacking to do but it's not important. All that other stuff you can find on the internet about opening doors and windows and putting the hazards on is all nonsense.

Sometimes after being jacked up you might see the car in extended mode or something odd but it soon sorts itself out as you have found.

Unfortunately Paddi as I mentioned it wasn't me it was the fitters. I couldn't get near to see how it was jacked up and the first thing the guy said to me when I got the keys back was.......there's a fault with your suspension. They had I believe tried to do a multitude of things with the suspension and terrain settings as the button was raised, the terrain was also in lo.

Like I said I got into the car put it back into Hi and standard and it was fine. Went into access fine and off-road fine.

I have a EAS tool also if I'd needed it looked at their and then but luckily it was alright. Next time though I'll go to my usual tyre fitters who use a ramp and no longer than 20 mins to remove and refit. Taking an hour to fit 1 tyre is far too long but then they probably spent a load of that time mucking around with the suspension for no apparent reason.

We change tyres regular on RRS & FFRR & ive never had a problem with suspension & I rarely put it in off road mode.

It take us on average to change all 4 on a 4x4 45minutes.If it took my lads a hour to change one then they would be looking for another job.

Is there any need to have the wheels balanced on car?
I use to have to have this done on my last car, and wondered with 4x4 etc with our cars I'd this was required when having tyres changed.

With owning our expensive complex vehicles, I don't understand why people would even contemplate on going to places like Halfrauds or Kwik Fit to have anything done, let alone tyres, which are the thing that keep the car on the road. Never worth fitting cheap tyres to our cars, more so these no name foreign imports the above stores seem to always have on offer, now made to get good grading on the labels but on real life driving are complete crap.

I presume this will happen more as older cars become more available to people who could never afford to purchase anything less than ten years old, all ok until its first service or problem.  John

I would never use the large superstore . My nephew actually has young apprentice/mechanic that joined his indi garage, no bs they sprayed parts/cleaned them up (already on the car) with wd40 and charged customers for them . He did this practice (yes its illegal, he's not proud of it) but was forced by the shop manager to meet really tight monthly figures.

You can call it bs or bad grapes, but he has no axe to grind or reason to big himself. enough said.

Been underneath, all good. No issues when I was out again. Checked for any fault codes on the IID to see if it threw anything yesterday and there was nothing. So all good
