Reliability is indirectly proportional to complexity.

LR products are a bit more complex than Jaguar so I think that explains the relative merits of the Jags.

Think I would take issue with that, same engines, same gearboxes, same ICE and electronic systems, same suppliers! Only place where they differ is the AWD systems. Air suspension used on the XF sportbrakes, so why does AWD contribute to the unreliability of LR alone? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I've just received an email from Telsa inviting me to put down a down payment / reservation on a Model X P60 (this is the only model that will be available at launch in the UK in August but they will apply a software upgrade at extra cost later in the year to uprate it to 75kWh from 60 which increases the range too from 220 in "normal driving"). Price for the 4WD X after Govt contribution is £61500 approx, comes fully loaded with the only option being their Autopilot system. I would go for it as Tesla's are beautifully build but at 17 months old I cannot justify changing the RRS yet. I'm not worried about the lack of off-road capability of the Tesla (it is AWD rather than 4x4) and there is the problem of very very few and widely scattered dealers, like one in Edinburgh for the whole of Scotland. There are loads of Tesla Model S's on the roads in this part of Scotalnd although they are easily mistaken for a Mondeo....................... Unfortunately the P90 version with Ludicrous mode (0-60 in 2.9 secs) won't be here for a while and rumoured price is £90k for that one and at that price I would rather have an RRS or FFRR.

I've been in a P90 and ludicrous mode is just that. By far the fastest launch I have experienced, even compared to superbikes I've owned. I considered one earlier this year, but 3 things put me off. As you mentioned, the dealer network is sparse, and from a friend that bought one, no better than JLR ones. The interior quality is poor compared to a premium European brand. It's very American, and Americans have never done luxury interiors very well. Lastly the range, whilst pretty good, would still be limiting. We're driving to the South of France later this week, and whilst we could have done it in a Tesla, it would have defined my route and is have to worry about charging once there.

Certainly seeing a lot more of them about though. There are 3 P90D's withing 4 or 5 streets.

Here's an amusing video demonstrating the performance of the ModelX.

True the Germans are not much better but I switched from RRS 2011 simply for the MB 30 year breakdown cover anywhere in Europe. I used it once on a ten year old car with a front Spring broken in the Alps. One call to MB and they picked the car and us up. Put us in a hotel at their expense for three days as it was a week end and got the car repaired. Great experience that LR could learn from.

I loved my RRS but travelling in France a lot where the LR Dealers are useless (had my RRS in the garage for three weeks) I was not prepared to risk them again. Real shame. They have become complacent. Current Merc GLE 3.5d 2016 model, 2011 RRS HSE standard
Previous 2012 FL2 liked but boot too small
Previous to LR's 3 x Merc E320 estates - fantastic load carriers and long distance cruisers, ultra reliable. Only changed as needed a 4x4 high tow vehicle. Did have a 1955 early LR drop down windscreen and fuel tank under the drivers seat; again very reliable and super rugged.

United States 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE Santorini Black

Just one person's experience here -- I owned 3 Audi's before my 2010 Range Rover Sport. All 3 Audi's were extremely reliable but some very minor things had to be taken care of under warranty. My LR is now 6 years old, has done 70k miles and has been just as reliable and in fact has been almost flawless. The biggest difference in my ownership experience is that the maintenance costs are significantly more for the LR and the dealers here in Northern California are terrible compared to my local Audi dealership. I still go to my Audi dealer to service my wife's SQ5 and it's a pleasure going there. Even with the higher ownership costs of a Range Rover Sport I am definitely buying another one. To me it's got something special and I love driving it every day. It's the sum of the parts. I'm simply waiting for the 2017.

So I take the JD Power results with a grain of salt. It's going to vary a bit. Maybe I'm just lucky with my vehicles.

Tesla model X and S's -- they are everywhere here and I would never buy one. The interior sucks and the fit and finish is lacking. The model X looks like a big bloated Toyota Prius and is more like a minivan than an SUV. It's proportions are so awkward that it's not a handsome vehicle. And the price is ridiculous considering the other options out there. Yes it does 0-60 in a few seconds and has some silly falcon wing doors but those aren't things I value. But there is something out there for everyone. 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR – Bosphorus Grey

Seriously Bad Quality - Vehicle and Dealers

The RRS was a seriously desirable car in its initial shape - nothing out there was like it. The new model could wear a Hyundai badge and no one would know the difference. But at least if it was a Hyundai you would pay 1/3 the price and no have the magnitude of warranty woes.

I bought my 2010 TDV8 in December 2010 (August 2010 build) and couldn't be happier for the first 4-6 weeks. Then things started going wrong. The warranty list is now:
- Numerous systems failure during the first 2 years of ownership.
- Front ARB bushes replaced at 15,000km.
- Airconditioning compressor replaced 4 times - Its about to be replaced for the 5th time under warranty.
- Air suspension compressor replaced 3 times.
- Noise and ratles from the suspension air compressor piping (took 3 years to fix).
- Rear differential replaced twice.
- Gearbox mechatronics replaced.
- Battery replaced at 2.5 years. Current one is on its way out.
- Tail gate striker assembly replaced.
- HVAC temperature controls/fan control replaced.
- Air suspension ride height fixed numerous times.
- IPOD lead replaced.
- Drivers seat foam replaced - sagged on drivers seat.
- LH centre console hockey stick replaced. This took 5 attempts as parts on the first 4 attempts all arrived damaged from the UK.
- Lower windscreen/ventilation inlet valance replaced - plastic degraded very badly even though car is mostly under cover 24/7.
- Transfer case removed and oil leak fixed.
- LH rear CV boot replaced due to split.
- RH rear lamp replaced as it misted under certain conditions.
- Rough running engine. - never been able to fix this.

I am now into 5 years and 8 months of ownership. The vehicle has done 27,000km (16,700miles). In the last 1.5 years it has spent 8 months at the dealership getting problems fixed under warranty. It is going back to the dealer in 2 weeks to get the drive train shunt fixed - again (they now think it is the front differential or the transfer case tha needs replacing) and to get the airconditioner replaced (again).

When I bought the vehicle I purchased the Landrover extended warranty (increases it from 3 to 5 years). Just as well.

Wow, Meiang....I'm sorry about all your troubles with your RRS. Sounds like a horrible experience.

I've been lucky twice. I've been thinking about an L494 because of how it drives, but not sure that I want to tempt fate with a 3rd RR.

Both RRs that I've owned (1995 County which I had for 18 years and now the 2013 (L320), which I've had for 3) have been great cars with minimal issues...hardly a rattle in the old one and none in the newer one.

Nonetheless, I bought the LR extended warranty in both cases.

On the old County, only major repair was replacing the steering box at 50,000 miles (which is silly, but these were a weak spot in these cars) and the EAS compressor at 95,000 miles. Granted, there were lots of little things (e.g., failed EAS sensors), but early in it's life, hardly any of those.

On the new one, the only thing it's needed is a new battery, which was covered under warranty. Of course, it only has about 20,000 miles on the odometer.

Finger's crossed... 2013 RRS HSE Lux, Fuji White w/Silver Pkg, 5.0 V8

I reckon most of those issues are dealer-generated. Sure, the initial failure of an item is annoying but the likelihood of continual failures suggests that the bloke working on it is doing a bad job. I've had the same problem with a local LR dealership here. They messed up a number of "fixes" resulting in further "fixes" being required. They wrecked the steering rack requiring new rack and lower steering column, for example, when sorting out a turbo issue. The turbo issue was replacing one of the pair that had recently been put in by them when the originals failed at 70k miles (just after a service (by them)).

It's now worked on by a specialist LR indie. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

We could really do with a list/guide of Specialist Independant LR Service Places, to help find one in everyone's area.
The standard at some of the main LR dealerships is disgusting, and don't know how they can keep in business. Censored John
