Fuel Consumption Accuracy

I have noticed since new that the distance to empty display is way out (based upon the fuel tank capacity) on my TDV8. When it says 20-30km distance to empty the best I can ever put in the tank is around 65-70litres. The vehicle manual says the tanks holds 84 litres.

Is there any way of recalibrating the system. Also if the distance to empty is wrong does that imply that the indicated fuel consumption is wrong.

In UK the code reading tool IIB BT can also be used to reset correction factor on mpg, to give you a more acurate figure. Different size wheels from standard can alter this as well. John

John (or anyone), do you know which models this applies too?
Reason I ask is that one of the issues I reported when my 2011 3.0 TDV6 went in for some warranty work recently was mpg reading conservative by about 10%. Even though it's been mentioned on here that the readings can be tweaked to make them more accurate, the dealer said it was all hard coded in the ECU and couldn't be changed...

Best I've had is computer at 32.3mpg on mostly long runs (over about 1000 miles), but real world calculations are less than 29mpg. Naff. Got more than 32mpg from my 2003 X5!

Code Reading Tool IIB BT

What is a "Code Reading Tool IIB BT".

I have a Black Box Solutions FAULTMATE MSV-2 would this have the ability adjust the fuel consumption accuracy.

In my experience of 3 (2010, 2012 & 2011) 3.0 TDV6 + many loan cars, the 6 speed are always 13-15% out & the 8 speeds are - 10% out. Yet the range is always pretty accurate. I have raised this many, many times with JLR - including a rejection letter to Dr Speth for nightmare 2012 model, & they just 'no comment'

From empty to filler cap is 17 gallons if the average is 30 mpg then you should be able to do 510 miles per tank. I use an app so check actual fuel used against distance covered so have built up a pretty good pattern over 6 years. Jaguar trip computers see accurate, the cynic in me knows LR do this deliberately to make the rich feel environmentally friendlier Laughing

I have found the DS also displays higher than actual - last tank showed 40.5 on computer but was 36.9 actual Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
