So... this might be a pretty daft thing to ask...

But..

Recently bought 06 4.4 and it's got SC alloys, currently got 275/40/20's on all 4 wheels...

Had it serviced yesterday and they recommended replacing the two rear tyres, as cords exposed, which I already knew as it was mentioned on the most recent MOT.

Having read the posts here, seems to be recommended to upsize to the 275/45/20's for better ride etc...

Now he's the dilemma, the two front wheels are only 4 months old, so any issues with putting two 275/45/20's on the rear two and leaving the 275/40/20's on the front?? Or just swap out all 4??

You need to Run Either 45 or 40 profile all round Not Both, personally I prefer 45 profile bit better ride and slightly more rim protection.

I think as the front two are so new, I'll just put 40's on the rear, then have a look at it again next time!

Your centre diff won't be happy if you run different sizes front and rear.

Struggling to understand why you ran the vehicle with exposed tyre cords...  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Got air con topped up on Wednesday and they didn't mention anything, and they are normally the first to try and get new tyres on there, but the LR were pushing to get two rears on there saying cords exposed, but I can't see anything...

Both rear tyres bald on indder edges close to exposing cords
nsr has cut on rear wall that exposes cords

Just re-read this post, if your rear tyres are worn as you say Outer edge 5mm, Centre 5mm and Inside edge Bald, as there are normally only around 8mm on a new tyre I think you have a serious Suspension/Alignment Issue somewhere. I would suggest you also have a 4 wheel Alignment check done as well or new tyres may well go the same way.

Yeah, got it booked in for 2 new rears and a hunter hawkeye alignment, but if not that it might be the bushes maybe?

One would like to think if it was only MOT'd in May there shouldn't be any excessive wear in the Bushes or this would have been at least an Advisory as well.

Didn't find excessive movement in mot or service on Friday, so hopefully just alignment issue!

So....

I had the two tyres replaced on Wednesday, I wouldn't normally use Kwik Fit, but they had a really good deal of Pirelli which ended up being £110 a tyre, so suffered it, also they are the only place locally with a Hunter Hawkeye machine, I've checked Alignmycar.com and the nearest is 20 miles away.

Anyway, tyres were fitted all OK, and then the alignment started, first bit of grief was that they said what I'd booked online was just for the front wheels, I said just wanted the rear wheels done, so they said no problem. Chap came in to give me the keys and said the front had been sorted, but they couldn't adjust the rear, as the rod was too tight, and recommended I go back to LR to get loosened, as they didn't want to damage etc!! At that point, having read all of the stuff on here, I justed wanted my keys back and for them not to play around with it anymore. I called Kwik Fit Customer Service on way home and got a full refund, so no drama. BUT, I called LR today to book in for Wheel Alignment, and told them the story, and the said "Oh, well we can do it, but we don't have the equipment here, so Kwik Fit do all our alignments for us."!!!

Just thought I'd share!

To be honest I think there was a clue in 4 wheel Alignment Check, personally I wouldn't use Kwik Fit to even check my tyre pressures.
