Fuel gauge reading half full...but tank empty

Hi all,

My first RRS and my first post (so be gentle!). I have a 2011 HSE with a possible faulty fuel indicator. I have seen posts where people say that their gauge reads empty when they have fuel in the car, but mine seems to be the opposite. The gauge reading seems to stop at about half full, with 230ish miles left according to the display...Initially I though that I had the worlds most fuel efficient RR that was getting about 90 MPG Very Happy But then common sense took over and I decided to fill up...spent £60 on fuel, so I'm assuming that it was running on pretty low.

So, is this a hit-the-sensor-with-a-hammer fix, or a software issue, or what?

Any help and advice would be welcomed.

David

An you be certain you have a fault? How many litres did you put in to brim the tank? The car has a 84.1 litre capacity and typically does 340 miles to a tank, or 400 if you're on a long run. So there are measure hrs you can take if you need further reassurance you have a fault or not.

If there is a fault I'm not sure how it's fixed, sorry! L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Hi,

I'm not sure but I thought I read somewhere about there being issues with fuel gauge/sensor readings and there is a possibly a TSB or Re-call about it, I may be completely wrong but sure someone will know if there was or is.

Could try and Google LTB00566 v6

Cheers

Thanks for the replies.

I'm pretty sure its a fault - the gauge level was showing just below half, and then after I'd put £60 of fuel in it was showing just about three quarters.

I don't have a massive amount of confidence in it, which isn't much fun as I don't want to run out of fuel halfway up the motorway. I will fill it up and then just check the amount of miles that I do as a gauge...

..But I wanted to check on here first to see if anyone else had experienced something similar
